Youth Migrants and Refugees: For a Better Future
This project will result in a qualitative research study, that draws on interviews collected in 4 cities via a mobile phone app. The study will seek to fill critical knowledge gaps about the drivers, experiences, expectation, resources and vulnerabilities associated with mixed migration of youth in major city hubs. The study will inform UNFPA policy advocacy engagement on migration and youth. It will also guide UNFPA program development and implementation in the areas of sexual and reproductive health rights and services, gender-based violence, and adolescent/youth empowerment.
At the policy level, critical points of engagement include the New York Declaration for Refugees and Migrants and the 2018 United Nations Commission on Population and Development. In terms of service needs, as UNFPA is the UN’s lead agency on sexual and reproductive health rights and youth/adolescent empowerment, UNFPA’s own service provision.
