Immigrant Small Business Loan Program

• Credit Unions in Nova Scotia are offering a small business loan program that aims to help immigrants who are interested in starting, expanding or buying a small business.
• Under this program, an immigrant entrepreneur can borrow a maximum amount of up to $500,000 for loans that are of a traditional debt nature, for working capital or lines of credit.

Futurpreneur Canada – Newcomer Program

 Futurpreneur Canada is a national, non-profit organization that provides financing, mentoring and support tools to aspiring young business owners (aged 18-39).

 Its Newcomer Program provides tailored support to newcomers, including specific eligibility criteria for loan financing for young entrepreneurs (between the ages of 19-34) who have been in Canada for less than five years and who have limited or no established credit history in Canada.

Philippines- Japan International Corporation of Welfare Services (JICWELS) MOU on Nurses and Caregivers

The PHL and JICWELS have forged a unique hiring program which allows the Filipino candidate nurses/caregivers to take Japanese licensure exam and to practice their profession in Japan. It requires the candidates to undergo language training and cultural course in preparation for the exam. Before obtaining their qualifying as full-pledged nurses in Japan, the candidate is covered by a fully transparent employment contract with salaries equivalent to what Japanese nurses/caregivers receive.

Civil Society "Stockholm Agenda" on migrant and migration-related goals and targets

On June 19, 2014 a civil society agenda on the inclusion of migrants and migration in the post-2015 development framework was launched by the International Catholic Migration Commission (ICMC) in partnership with civil society networks Global Coalition on Migration, NGO Committee on Migration New York, and MADE, with the endorsement of over 100 additional organizations.

Swedish migration network

The Swedish Minister for migration has created the "Swedish migration network" meeting that take places on regular basis in an informal setting. The meeting is chaired by the Minister for migration. He invites colleagues working on migration issues from civil society, government agencies, trade unions, employer organizations, faith based organizations, diaspora organizations, the Red Cross and think tanks to put forward criticisms, experience sharing and suggestions from different points of views.

Mobilizing diaspora women for development and women empowerment

Eritrean women, including those still in immigration processes and abroad are invited and welcomed to join Eritrean diaspora organizations, such as women associations.  Diaspora women associations have contributed greatly to the establishment of institutions that aim to empower women in Eritrea. They have collected money and financed the construction of office buildings in several areas in Eritrea intended for women and their development through training, job offers, counseling, and assistance.

South Asian Workers Center of DRUM New York City

Established in 2000, DRUM aims to build the power of South Asian low wage immigrant workers, youth, and families in New York City to win economic and educational justice, and civil and immigrant rights. One of DRUM's main programs,  the South Asian Workers Center,  seeks to build the leadership of and organizes low-wage workers in service industries, particularly immigrant women retail workers.

Continuous survey of Australia's migrants (CSAM)

The CSAM measures the labour market integration of recently arrived migrants in the Skill and Family Streams. Findings from this survey help us to inform the size and composition of Australia's Migration Programme.

Migrants taking part in the CSAM are surveyed on two occasions to capture changes in their labour market status. This provides reliable insights into the migrant integration process, and the extent of underemployment against the backdrop of a changing labour market.

Swedish programme to Promote Foreign Entrepreneurship

In Sweden, a three-year programme to promote entrepreneurship among people with a foreign background was initiated in 2008 by the Ministry of Enterprise, Energy and Communications and implemented by the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional growth (NUTEK). It includes specific measures to increase banks’ awareness of the needs of migrant business owners in order to facilitate the extension of loans to those clients.

NATEG Days

Beginning in 2011, the North American Tunisian Engineers Group (NATEG), in partnership with the Tunisia American Young Professionals (TAYP) and AMIDEAST, has hosted the annual 'NATEG Days' in various cities in Tunisa. The days provide an entrepreneurship program aimed at graduating and graduate students in Tunisia’s top engineering schools.
