Currently in its third phase, the ILO Safe Labour Migration Programme in Sri Lanka contributes to promote safe and regular migration through improved policies and legal frameworks related to labour migration and better service provision to migrant workers and their families.

Budapest Process

Budapest Process is a good example of cooperation between countries of two regions; Europe and Asia. A successful process, it gathers over 50 countries and more than ten international organisations. Alert level classification system

The Philippines Alert level classification system essentially classifies the degree of threat and of immediate danger that the migrant worker is facing. The objective of these General principles and operational guidelines for fair recruitment is to inform the current and future work of the ILO and of other organizations, national legislatures, and the social partners on promoting and ensuring fair recruitment. These principles and guidelines are derived from a number of sources, including international labour standards and ILO instruments among others.

Research on Labour Recruitment Industry between UAE, Kerala (India) and Nepal

This paper, “Research on the Labour Recruitment Industry between United Arab Emirates, Kerala (India) and Nepal,” was commissioned to the International Organization for Migration by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) within the framework of the Abu Dhabi Dialogue. It examines the labour recruitment processes from India and Nepal to the UAE, with a focus on low-skilled and semi-skilled workers.

Pravasi Bharatiya Bima Yojana

'Pravasi Bharatiya Bima Yojana' is a compulsory insurance scheme for the overseas Indian workers.  The Ministry of External Affairs has framed guidelines for all Indian emigrants going abroad for employment purposes with ECR (Emigration Check Required) endorsement on their passport to compulsorily take out this insurance cover.

Pre Departure Orientations Seminar (PDOs)

Pre Departure Orientations Seminar or PDOs stands in contrast to the PEOS. The PDOS is conducted just immediately, prior to departure or when migrants already have a contract of work. It is an educational programme designed to assist successful applicants for organized recruitment prior to their actual deployment, with information on the laws and procedues, cultural idiosyncracies and practices of the host country.  The Filippino government also holds a special hotline - anti-trafficking hotline 1343 which provides online legal counselling as well for anybody who needs it.

Pre Employment Orientation Seminar (PEOS)

PEOS stands for Pre Employment Orientation Seminar. It is a general public information advocacy campaign that seeks to inform people about the realities of migration abroad. There is AIR guidance or Anti-Illegal Recruitment guidance which guides people toward the legal path of securing work abroad providing information on the legitimate jobs and the proper course of action to take.
