The International Migration Review Forum (IMRF) intergovernmental negotiation process on the GCM Modalities Resolution, under the co-facilitation of Spain and Bangladesh, is envisaged to conclude by the end of June 2019, with a view to the adoption of a final text in July. It is incumbent on GFMD, therefore, to share with the co-facilitators the views of participating Member States on a number of key issues relating to GFMD’s relationship to the GCM, ahead of the presentation of the zero draft.
Particularly, it is important that the GFMD discuss and contribute on how best it can undertake the role afforded to GFMD under the terms of the Compact, while remaining a state-led, voluntary and inclusive process that is open and relevant to all Member States.
Accordingly, the GFMD 2019 Chair Ecuador will hold an informal consultation in Geneva, with a view to using the outcome of the consultation to articulate a letter by the Chair to the co-facilitators of the IMRF establishing broad parameters for the relationship between the GFMD and the GCM.
The consultation will be held from 14:30-17:30, 4 April 2019 in Room VII, Palais des Nations, Geneva. It will be open to all Government Friends of the Forum. Please save this date and time.
