This Handbook is a tool to accompany training on the operationalization of the ‘Guidelines: Protection Assistance for Vulnerable Migrants in Zambia’. The Handbook will be used during training of first line officials, to help them understand the needs of vulnerable migrants and to assist them in becoming conversant with international and national standards to be upheld in meeting the needs of such migrants.
A. Need of awareness raising and building understanding
Zambia has developed the Facilitator’s Manual, Participant’s Handbook, Guidelines and the National Referral Mechanism (NRM) to facilitate capacity building of first line officials to spearhead the implementation of the national action plans for migration related SDGs. To this extent about one thousand eight hundred (1,800) Frontline officers have been trained in mixed migration.
With the objective of defining comprehensive, sustainable and European standards-based policies in the area of migrations and asylum, the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina is continually developing, implementing and monitoring the implementation of strategic documents in this area.
Through the European Agenda on Migration, the EU aims to provide its Member States with tools to build up a coherent and comprehensive approach to reap the benefits and address the challenges deriving from migration, in the medium as well as long term.The European Commission's agenda on migration sets out a European response, combining internal and external policies, making best use of EU agencies and tools, and involving all actors.
The Bahamas and the Haitian governments signed three agreements intended to further trade development between both countries and lead to a decrease in illegal migration. The agreements include a framework for bilateral cooperation, an agreement on trade and technical cooperation in agriculture and fisheries, and an agreement on the promotion and protection of investments. They cover the “need to create favourable conditions for investments” in both the Bahamas and Haiti, and urged each side to promote possible investments in one another’s private sectors, among other provisions.
For the first time since independence in 1957, the Government of Ghana has formulated a National Migration Policy (NMP) to help manage its internal and international migration flows in the context of national development as well as sub-regional, regional and global interests. The Government of Ghana formally approved it in April 2015, policy which was developed with support from IOM Ghana and the IOM Development Fund (IDF).
The project seeks to improve access and appropriateness of health care services, health promotion and prevention for migrants. The EQUI HEALTH project also supports the development of a harmonized EU approach for access to and appropriate provision of healthcare for migrants and ethnic minorities. It works towards the reduction of health inequalities faced by migrants, Roma and other vulnerable ethnic minority groups. The project also raises the issues of health and border management, public health, occupational health and migrant health in detention at the Eastern Schengen border.
The Government of Nigeria has formally adopted a National Policy on Migration and its Implementation Plan in 2015, with support from IOM and the European Union (EU). The policy and its implementation plan provide an appropriate legal framework for monitoring and regulating internal and international migration, and proper collection and dissemination of migration data.
The EU Communication aims to respond to EC Council's request, based on the existing policy and cooperation framework, to identify novel approaches to improve the management of legal movements of people between the EU and third countries, in order to make significant efforts to fight illegal migration.
The Söderköping Process was launched in May 2001, funded by the European Union, as a cross-border cooperation process on asylum and migration and in order to respond to the new challenges that arose with the EU’s eastward enlargement. It is named after Söderköping, Sweden, where the first meeting took place on the initiative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the Swedish Migration Board.
