Solidarity Cities is an initiative on the management of the refugee crisis proposed by the Mayor of Athens and launched in the framework of the EUROCITIES network. It aims to constitute the framework under which all cities actions and initiatives are presented highlighting the political leadership of cities in addressing this challenge.

Reception and Integration System (SAI)

In Italy, the System for the Protection of Refugees and Unaccompanied Minors (SIPROMI) is a publicly funded network of local authorities and NGOs, which accommodates unaccompanied children and provides them access to the Italian social protection system, including legal support, legal guardianship, access to health, including psychological counselling, access to Italian language classes and to mainstream education programmes. In some contexts, opportunities for vocational training and job opportunities through partnerships with social cooperatives and the private sector.

Migration Multi-Partner Trust Fund 

Established by the UN Network on Migration in May 2019, the Fund is governed by a diverse and inclusive Steering Committee and administered by the UN Multi-Partner Trust Fund Office.

Committed to safe, orderly, and regular migration, the Migration Multi-Partner Trust Fund supports the adoption and implementation of the Global Compact for Migration to encourage the uptake of migration approaches that benefit communities of origin, transit, and destination, as well as migrants.

Thailand's National Screening Mechanism

Thailand’s National Screening Mechanism (NSM) will be established to screen those who have protection claims in Thailand and grant a 'protected person status' to eligible applicants which in theory would protect them from arbitrary detention. However, many details remain unclear, including what protections persons with ‘protected person status’ will be able to access, and whether they will be protected from detention in practice. Discussions are ongoing for how this will be implemented.

National Migration Strategy 2016-2020 (Georgia)

The Migration Strategy 2016-2020 is the third strategic document for Georgia defining migration policy. The strategy reflects an increasing drive, in cooperation with the EU member and other states, to increase the basis for legal migration, and prevent illegal migration, and transnational and trans-boundary organised crime. A special emphasis is given to the development of mechanisms facilitating return and reintegration of Georgian citizens, protection of the rights and integration of persons with refugee or humanitarian status, and asylum seekers in Georgia.

National Institute of Migration

The National Institute of Migration is an administrative body, under the Ministry of the Interior of Mexico, which applies the Mexican laws and international treaties to grant all foreigners the necessary facilities to carry out legal, orderly and safe migration procedures that allow their entry and stay in the national territory. 

 

Supporting Arrival Cities - the case of Uruguay

The Government of Uruguay has set up a multi-stakeholder and consultative approach to State migration policy, institutional responses and coordination in the care and protection of the rights of migrants arriving in cities.

Assessment to identify institutional competencies

In order to better deal with inclusion and integration, Mexico conducted an assessment to identify institutional competencies and attributions at different levels of government, analyze competences, identify the needs of institutions and migrants respectively, and streamline service provision across the country based on available resources for migrants’ care. The assessment enabled the Government to identify key partnerships based on the data collected through the assessment.
