Supporting refugee farming initiatives in rural and regional Australia: This initiative evolved spontaneously from research led by University of Wollongong and University of Melbourne academics in partnership with a community-based food cooperative Food Next Door. The researchers were able to connect Burundi refugees and former refugees, who are ‘landless farmers’, with donated farmland and with Food Next Door and the Sunraysia Burundian Garden to grow culturally important crops.

The Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot

The Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot is a community-driven program designed to spread the benefits of economic immigration to smaller communities by creating a path to permanent residence for skilled foreign workers who want to work and live in rural communities where they can quickly become self-sufficient, and exercise their skills in agriculture and food production. This innovative, economic pilot will test a new community-driven approach to attracting and retaining newcomers to communities across Ontario, the Western provinces and the territories.

Deepening financial inclusion and enhancing rural people’s resilience by providing low-cost, cross-border mobile money transfers across the Kenya-Uganda corridor, linked with savings, loans and other financial services, and by promoting entrepreneurship for migrant family investment.

Morocco's Migration Policies and the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration

In Morocco, national consultations were held in September 2017 with civil society and diaspora representivatives, scholars and researchers, represensatives of the private sector and public institutions. These national consultations have enabled Morocco to come with a consolidated contribution to the Global Compact, the "Recommendations of the Kingdom of Morocco on the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration."

Somali AgriFood Fund

The Somali AgriFood Fund is a seed capital investment matching fund, which targets the succesful Somali diaspora in the United States, Canada, European Union and Australia, matching their interest to invest with small and medium enterprises in agribusiness in Somalia on fishing, agriculture, food processing, packaging, cold storage facilities, and livestock.

Directorate in charge of Diaspora

Madagascar has created a Directorate in charge of Diaspora within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The first initiative of this directorate was to carry out a profiling of diaspora members in France, which hosts the majority of migrants from Madagascar. The government of Madagascar also organized the first forum on Diaspora, to uncover the activities of the Malagasy diaspora, and to them in contact with civil society organization with which they can work and create synergies. 

Somos Mexicanos

The Somos Mexicanos ('We are Mexicans') program provides support to members of the Mexican diaspora who choose or are forced to return to Mexico. An initiative of the Mexican Ministry of the Interior beginning in 2014, the program includes support on food and health, identity, communication to families, transfer and shelter. It also seeks to maximize the productive reintegration of returnees, providing guidance on job opportunities, access to socail programs, and options to continue studies.

Handbook for Armenians Abroad

The Handbook for Armenians Abroad was published in 2010 by the Armenian Ministry of Diaspora with the support of the ILO-EU project 'Towards Sustainable Partnerships for the Effective Governance of Labour Migration in the Russian Federation, the Caucasus and Central Asia'.
