Knowledge transfer on environmental sustainability and climate adaptation from the Filipino diaspora

The “Knowledge transfer on environmental sustainability and climate adaptation from the Filipino diaspora” is an action of ​​the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development Staff (PCSDS) and Palawan State University (PSU) run by the EU Global Diaspora Facility (EUDiF), an EU-funded project implemented by the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD). By leveraging Filipino diaspora expertise, EUDiF empowers PCSDS and PSU in the areas of climate change finance and education respectively to advance Palawan’s Strategic Environmental Plan. The two main activities are:

Diaspora investment in sustainable rural youth entrepreneurship in Mali

Through its Financing Facility for Remittances (FFR), IFAD is working to mobilize Malian migrant investment to encourage economic development entrepreneurism and employment in Mali, and to stimulate the economic inclusion of young Malians and offer them an alternative to migration, particularly in rural areas.

E-Learning for Consular Staff

IOM, in collaboration with foreign services of various of its Member States, has developed an E-Learning course on “Improving assistance to nationals affected by crises abroad” to enhance the ability of relevant personnel to manage crises that may affect nationals living, working or travelling abroad. Strengthening these institutions’ preparedness to crises is essential to ensure that they can cope with the intense demand of assistance by their nationals in the event of a crisis.

Migra Empresas

The Municipality of La Pintana, Chile, has kick-started a project working with local businesses called ‘Migra Empresas’, which seeks to bring job offers to migrants and where the city administration provides legal and technical assistance to companies.  This program is part of La Pintana's commitment to work in five areas to make the commune an intercultural territory, inclusive and free of discrimination:

1- Institutionality that addresses the migrant reality.

2- Education and training plans for municipal personnel in this matter.

Programme Migration & Diaspora (PMD)

The PMD programme is financed by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and supports key actors in making more effective use of regular migration and diaspora engagement to achieve their development goals. Guided by the Global Compact for Migration (GCM), the program is implemented by GIZ in up to 25 partner countries and focuses on the following three components:

 

Supporting host communities for refugees and migrants from Venezuela in the border regions of Colombia and Ecuador

Commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), this programme implemented by GIZ supports government institutions, local governments and civil society in the border regions of Colombia with Venezuela and Ecuador with Colombia to better respond to the flow of refugees and migrants from Venezuela and, in the case of Ecuador, also Colombian refugees. The project supports host communities in the integration of refugees and migrants.

 

Global Programme on Human Mobility in the Context of Climate Change

On behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Global Programme on Human Mobility in the Context of Climate Change (GP HMCCC) supports its partners in the Caribbean, East Africa, the Pacific, the Philippines and West Africa in better understanding and addressing the complex, multi-causal interrelations between different forms of human mobility (migration, displacement and planned relocation) and climate change.

Migration Policy Advice in Niger

Implemented on behalf of BMZ, the programme offers advice to government and civil society partners with the objective of reaching a coordinated and holistic migration policy, improving networking among multiple actors, and strengthening cooperation between political entities. The inclusion of civil society in the process contributes to checks and balances in Niger's fragile democratic system and reduces the risk of conflict. To this end, the project has supported an initiative of the local NGO "Youth-childhood-migration-development" to create a civil society network on migration.

Towards a Holistic Approach to Labour Migration Governance and Labour Mobility in North Africa (THAMM)

Designed as a regional programme, THAMM supports national institutions to draft and implement policies and mechanisms for safe, orderly and regular migration, as well as fostering cooperation and regional exchange between relevant stakeholders in North Africa. It will also develop and pilot mobility schemes, in particular for young women and men in Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt, who are interested in a dual vocational education training in Germany, or for skilled workers seeking recognition of their qualifications to start working in Germany.

KNOMAD 1.2

KNOMAD is an open, inclusive, multidisciplinary knowledge partnership. Since its inception, it has served as a brain trust for the global migration community, generating a menu of policy choices based on analytical evidence, evaluation of policies, data collection, and quality control. KNOMAD 1.2 signals a new phase with a stronger commitment to provide technical assistance and undertake pilot projects to support countries to adjust their policies and programs amidst a changing and challenging landscape on migration.
