Health Partnerships - UK health partnerships with low-income countries

Submitted by Mr. Dário Muhamudo on

The UK funds a health partnership scheme, which enables overseas volunteering by UK health professionals in order to contribute effectively to global health development and also to strengthen the skills of the UK workforce when the volunteer returns.

The Health Partnership Scheme (HPS) works to improve healthcare for some of the world’s poorest people through partnerships between the NHS and UK institutions and developing countries’ health systems.

The European Job Mobility Portal (EURES)

Submitted by Mr. Dário Muhamudo on

Launched in 1994, EURES is a European cooperation network of employment services, designed to facilitate the free movement of workers. The network has always worked hard to ensure that European citizens can benefit from the same opportunities, despite language barriers, cultural differences, bureaucratic challenges, diverse employment laws and a lack of recognition of educational certificates across Europe.

This web portal provides information on access to job opportunities in 32 European countries. It also promotes the cooperation amongst national employment agencies.

Migration and Development Policies and Practices: A mapping study of eleven European countries and the European Comission

Submitted by Mr. Dário Muhamudo on

This study has three objectives:

1) analyze migration and development in Europe;

2) provide input for continued policy discussions on migration and development beyond Europe, and;

3) assist states in identifying possible future directions, as well as common ground for addressing migration as an inherent part of development.

MIDA Ghana Health Project

Submitted by Mr. Dário Muhamudo on

The MIDA Ghana Health project contributes to the development of human resources in the health sector in Ghana. Ghanaian and other African migrants in EU countries can transfer knowledge, skills and experience through temporary assignments to Ghana. Also, health workers from Ghana have the opportunity to engage in specialized training at health care institutions in the Netherlands, Germany or the United Kingdom.

The project is implemented by IOM in close cooperation with the Ministry of Health of Ghana and Ghanaian diaspora groups in Europe.

Central Asia Regional Migration Programme (CARMP)

Submitted by Mr. Dário Muhamudo on

This programme concerns labour migration which has played a key part in reducing poverty levels in Central Asia, particularly in the two poorest countries, where the UK Department for International Development (DFID) has bilateral programmes – Kyrgyzstan (KRG) and Tajikistan (TJK) – where most communities, especially in rural areas have large number of labour migrants abroad, mainly to the Russian Federation (RF) and Kazakhstan (KZK).
