The Migration Youth Forum is MYCP's flagship initiative and an official youth preparatory space to the GFMD Summits, implemented since 2018. This has been 2-3 days long virtual or in-person event, which have been very successful in:

– building the capacity of young people to advocate on issues of migration;

– giving youth a space to consult, help them consolidate their priorities, and amplify their voices;

– creating strong networks and collaborations across youth peers as well as relevant institutions from governments to UN and civil society;

Youth Leadership and Innovation Award

The Youth Leadership and Innovation Award for Migration (YLIA) is a global contest empowering young leaders to drive innovative solutions for migration challenges. The inaugural Youth Leadership and Innovation Award for Migration organised as part of youth engagement in the 2021 Global Forum for Migration and Development Summit, awarded cash prizes totaling $33,000 to three winning youth initiatives. These were chosen from nine finalists by a high-level jury during a pitching and awards ceremony during the GFMD summit itself.

Social media campaign - Everybody Knows Something That You Don't Know

Everybody Knows Something That You Don't Know is a social media campaign using short interviews to create a positive migration narrative. During the interviews, the MYCP team talks to youth about the topic of migration and publishes this in the format of interactive interviews on social networks.

@letstalkmigration Instagram Platform is a community of more than 2000 young members and growing sharing tools and tips on how to change the often negative narratives on migration in their communities.To enable capacity building for youth wanting to learn more about shaping narratives on the ground beyond the tools and advice shared on the account, we have hosted an online workshop series with 6 regional rounds for young people on how to use social media to create their own positive and hope-based narratives with over 40 participants from different regions worldwide.

Documentation on alternatives to detention

International Detention Coalition (IDC) has documented diverse promising practices on alternatives to detention across Africa, from governments and NGOs, to generate momentum for rights-based practices. In 2017, IDC launched a research titled 'There are Alternatives : Africa' which documents promising practices in over 32 African countries. The report highlights some of the measures in place including laws, policies and practices in Africa that contribute to the effective and humane governance of migration, while avoiding the use of unnecessary immigration detention.

European Alternatives to Detention Network

The European Alternatives to Detention Network (EATDN) is a group of NGOs that aims to end immigration detention in Europe. Established in 2017, it brings together civil society organisations implementing case management-based ATD (alternatives to detention) pilots in seven European countries (Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Poland and the UK) in partnership with regional-level and international organisations.

Environmental Humanitarian Visa Program

The National Directorate of Migrations of Argentina implemented through Provision 891/2022 the Special Humanitarian Visa Program for nationals and residents of the United Mexican States, Central America and the Caribbean displaced by socio-natural disasters, named as "Environmental Humanitarian Visa Program", which aims to provide humanitarian protection, planned relocation and lasting solutions to people, nationals and residents in the United Mexican States, Central America and the Caribbean (23 States included) displaced by socio-natural disasters.

Residence for humanitarian reasons for Ukrainian citizens and their immediate family members

The National Directorate of Migrations issued on March 2022 Provision N° 417/2022 that authorizes the entry and stay in Argentina for humanitarian reasons of Ukrainian citizens and their direct family members, regardless of their nationality, in response to the crisis caused by the war that is going through that country. The measure aims to facilitate and guarantee family reunification of Ukrainian citizens, who are exempt from paying migration fees.

Electronic Certificate of Precarious Residence
