The Migration Media Award (MMA) recognizes and rewards the journalistic excellence, relevance and newsworthiness of press pieces dealing with migration in the Euro-Mediterranean region in all its aspects. For its first edition in 2017, the MMA rewarded 35 journalists based in an EU country or a Southern Partner Country (SPC) and 41 in 2018, and had their winning stories published on www.migration-media-award.eu.
Jamaica Diaspora Agriculture Taskforce (JDAT) Investor Circle provides microfinance funding for local farmers. The Circle provides an opportunity for persons and organizations within diaspora and Jamaica, to pool their resources in an effort to assist the country’s agricultural sector. The JDAT has been engaging Jamaican farmers in a number of initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable organic farming.

The ILO project “Development of capacities to promote union affiliation and coverage of collective bargaining in Colombia” (COL/13/05/ NOR) sought to develop the internal capacities of trade unions, complementing the projects that had been developed before in the field of strengthening of tripartite spaces. According to the final evaluation of the project, the context also played an important role in its success, through the approval of Decrees 160 and 017, which have facilitated social dialogue between public authorities and trade unions.
Supporting refugee farming initiatives in rural and regional Australia: This initiative evolved spontaneously from research led by University of Wollongong and University of Melbourne academics in partnership with a community-based food cooperative Food Next Door. The researchers were able to connect Burundi refugees and former refugees, who are ‘landless farmers’, with donated farmland and with Food Next Door and the Sunraysia Burundian Garden to grow culturally important crops.

Afghanistan is second only to Syria in the number of refugees originating from within its borders in recent years. Officially, about 2.5 million refugees have left Afghanistan in the almost four decades of this country being marked by hostilities and terror. The unofficial figure for the number of people who have fled exceeds six million. The majority of them are currently in the neighbouring countries of Pakistan and Iran as well as in Turkey. It is in this context that the first information centre for potential migrants was opened in Kabul, the Afghan capital.
The Viet Nam Association of Manpower and Supply (VAMAS) has published an updated Code of Conduct for the recruitment of workers for overseas jobs to improve ethical recruitment and better protect migrant workers.
The Code and its monitoring tools were launched with support from the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the International Organization of Migration (IOM) in Hanoi on 24 April 2018.
