Joint UN Initiative on Migration and Health in Asia (JUNIMA) - Gathering of networks of member states, international organizations and stakeholders to contribute to the implementation of GCM and respect of GCM principles

As a model whereby member states, international organizations and stakeholders can come together for the shared vision for promotion of health of migrants, conditions that ensure decent work, as well as reduce vulnerabilities in migration, the Joint UN Initiative on Migration and Health in Asia (JUNIMA) ensures effective regional coordination to advocate for access to health for migrants in Asia.

Evaluation of mechanisms implemented since 2011 on how to reduce remittance costs

The Ministry of Malians Abroad has asked the EU ACP Action for Migration, implemented by the International Organization for Migration - IOM, to review the mechanisms that have been put in place since 2011 regarding remmittance and migration.

In particular, the mandate of this assistance was to review the mechanisms that relate, inter alia, to the following:

Supporting the Central Bank of Somalia’s regulation of mobile money to strengthen and safeguard remittances

Somalia is experiencing a remarkable recovery from decades of war and instability. Moving forward it is essential for the country to develop a strong and sound financial system which is up to international standards in terms of  efficiency, transparency and regulation. One key element of the Somali financial system is mobile money. Mobile money allows Somalis to store money, as well as to receive and make payments. This is a major development for a country that lacks a strong currency, remains unsafe in many regions and in which 90% of the population does not have a bank account.

Global Concessional Financing Facility Trust Fund (GCFF)

The World Bank developed the GCFF financing mechanism to support middle-income countries receiving refugees through beneficial loans. Currently, GCFF supports Jordan and Lebanon, which has received a large number of Syrian refugees. The facility has also been expanded to provide support for other middle-income countries receiving refugees (the global window).

Assessing the Economic Contribution of Labour Migration in Developing Countries as Countries of Destination (ECLM)

In 2014, the OECD Development Centre, in collaboration with the International Labour Organization (ILO), initiated a three-and-a-half-year project, co-financed by the EU Thematic Programme on Migration and Asylum. The project assesses the economic contribution of labour migration in developing countries as countries of destination. It seeks to arrive at a reliable and evidence-based understanding of how immigration affects the economies of a number of low- and middle-income countries, focusing on particular on:

Integration Strategy Group

 “Making integration work: experiences from Morocco, Turkey and Germany” – this was the theme of the Integration Strategy Group (ISG), a transnational reflection group consisting of approximately twenty German, Moroccan and Turkish participants from different disciplines including politics, administration, civil society, media and research.

Global Migration Data Portal

Germany’s Federal Foreign Office and the Global Migration Data Analysis Centre (GMDAC) for IOM, the UN Migration Agency, launched in December 2017 the Migration Data Portal in Berlin. The Migration Data Portal brings together the key facts and figures about global migration trends in one place for the first time. The Portal aims to serve as a unique access point to timely, comprehensive migration statistics and reliable information about migration data globally.
