Global Concessional Financing Facility Trust Fund (GCFF)

The World Bank developed the GCFF financing mechanism to support middle-income countries receiving refugees through beneficial loans. Currently, GCFF supports Jordan and Lebanon, which has received a large number of Syrian refugees. The facility has also been expanded to provide support for other middle-income countries receiving refugees (the global window).

Identification of Togolese Diaspora Workers and Support to Project Investment of Migrants in Togo

The objectives of the project is to support the government in its efforts to mobilize Togolese diaspora for the development of Togo and is implemented by the NGO MARS.  MARS organized information and awareness-raising workshops with state actors of development and civil society actors, to adhere to the project. MARS implemented a database of Togolese living in Germany, France, Benin and Ghana, and finance and accompanied five projects of migrants.

 

Mauritius Diaspora Scheme

In 2015 Mauritius set up a diaspora scheme. It has been set up with the aim to attract members of the Mauritian Diaspora back to Mauritius to participate in the economic development of the country. It is open to any diaspora member who is willing to return and participate to the development of the country. It provides a package of incentives and benefits, such as income tax exemption, import allowances, a waiver on custom duties, exemption of payment for registration fees for residential property and a status.

Integrating Migration and Displacement into United Nations Development Assistance Frameworks

To support UNCTs in the Global South, the Global Migration Group (GMG) conducted an extensive consultative process involving all GMG agencies and working groups, the UN Development Operations Coordination Office, and civil society organizations. The outcome of this process is a comprehensive Guidance Note on Integrating Migration and Displacement into UNDAFs that introduces UNCTs and government partners to the various programmatic links between sustainable development, migration and displacement.

Support the entrepreneurship of young people with the help of the diaspora

The CSO Regional Development Agencies of Morazán and La Unión in El Salvador worked with some municipalities and diaspora in the US to support youth in starting up their own businesses and cooperatives, which included access to social finance.

This case study draws on good practice from projects supported by the UN Joint Migration and Development Initiative (JMDI) in El Salvador and explores how to establish youth-led businesses at the local level, with support from the diaspora, as a vehicle to promote local development and provide alternatives to irregular migration.

 

Cooperation between Poland and Angola

Poland has a strong cooperation with Angola. Its aim is principally to contribute to the sustainability of the Angola economic development.

At the same time it perfectly fits into the framework of the EU-Africa cooperation by addressing the needs of youth in the area of education and job creation, thus enhancing the economic potential of Angola. 

Diaspora Week

The LGU's Guide in Mainstreaming Migration and Development in Local Development Planning and Governance

The M&D Mainstreaming Guide primarily aims to help the local governments of CALABARZON (Laguna, Batangas, Cavite, Rizal and Quezon) in integrating M&D into their local planning, and provide them with a sample menu of services that their localities can provide for the migrants and their families. It will also provide pertinent information on international migration, issues of migrants and the national government agencies involved in M&D initiatives so the LGUs could link up with them.
