The call to participate in this informal survey was endorsed by the Governments of Morocco and Switzerland, as Co -chairs of the ad hoc WG on Policy Coherence, Data and Research, at the GFMD Summit Meeting. As implementing partners, IOM and ICMPD have jointly designed the questionnaire -- which is available in 4 languages (English, French, Spanish and Russian) -- in consultation with the GFMD Support Unit which administers the GFMD Platform for Partnerships.

Gender on the Move: Working on the Migration-Development Nexus from a Gender Perspective

Around the world, a record number of women are now migrating to seek work and better lives. For many, migration yields these benefits; for others, it carries dangerous risks, such as exploitation in domestic work, and vulnerability to violence. Migration policies and practices have been slow to recognize these risks and take steps to make the process safe for women.

Migration Profiles Repository

Governments are increasingly recognizing Migration Profiles as a comprehensive data collection and capacity building tool for informed and coherent policy planning. To date, more than 100 migration profiles have been prepared ranging from short statistical overviews, to longer and more comprehensive reports based on extensive consultation and analysis of the migration situation of a particular country.

Mainstreaming Migration into Development Planning

Since the first General Assembly High-level Dialogue on International Migration and Development in 2006, states have explored, through the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) process, collaborative approaches to enhancing the benefits and curbing the negative impacts of migration for development.  The discussions and issues addressed at the GFMD have considerably evolved since it was first convened in 2007.

Open Society Emergency Response to COVID-19

The Open Society Foundations committed USD $133.7 million to combat devastation in the wake of coronavirus, prioritizing funding through public-private partnerships to support city governments in both response and recovery.5 A substantial portion of the funding was for urban immigrant and undocumented families, low-wage workers, domestic workers, caregivers, and those in the informal and gig economies who are at greatest risk from the pandemic, including direct, one-time emergency relief payments to up to 20,000 immigrant families in New York City.
