Scaling up remittances and financial inclusion in rural areas through post offices

PostBank Uganda, in partnership with  Posta Uganda and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), is finalizing its remittances business plan and expanding financial inclusion through remittances in rural areas of Uganda, leveraging Posta Uganda’s broad network of rural post offices to expand access to financial services for the rural population. The post offices are being equipped with modern digital and mobile technologies for remittance delivery and financial service transactions, and postal staff is receive specialized training.

Diaspora engagement in agri-business

The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO)'s rural youth employement and agri-food systems in Ugrana project aims to foster diaspora investments in agricultural value chains in Uganda, by assessing and supporting institutional mechanisms, mapping Ugandan diaspora skills and expertise related to agri-business, and developing a diaspora in agribusiness network and road map for policy dialogue. 

Social Security Fund

Nepal in 2018 introduced a social security scheme to protect and secure employees working in the formal private sector. The contribution-based social security scheme is funded through the contributions made by the workers and the employers.

Every month, tens of thousands of private sector workers and their employers contribute to a common fund which will help needy workers get financial support. Returning migrants can also pay contributions to this Fund and benefit from social entitlements. 

Remit Hydro

Remit Hydro, a subsidiary of the government company Hydro Electricity Investment and Development Company Limited (HIDCL), is a concept for the development of hydropower sector in Nepal. A part of the remittance money the country is receiving will be used in the equity investment of hydropower projects. The project aims to promote collective remittances for development and encourage the productive use of remittances.

Returnee Migrant Entrepreneurship Award Program

Returnee Migrant Entrepreneurship Award Program is conducted annually and the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security (MOLESS) of Nepal. The Program recognizes contributions of returnee migrants from across Nepal who are engaged in innovative entrepreneurship programs. Certificate of recognition and monetary incentives are provided to the awardees.

Moroccan Network of Journalists on Migration (Réseau marocain des journalistes des migrations)

The Moroccan Network of Journalists on Migration was created in November 2018 in Morocco, and seeks to promote the ethical, balanced and professional reporting of migration issues in Morocco. It aims to provide a space for exchange, reflection, collaboration and mutual assistance on themes relating to migration. 

Refugees Got Talent

Each year the UNHCR organizes, together with the Ministry Delegate for Migration Affairs of Morocco the talent show "Refugees Got Talent" to coincide with World Refugee Day (20 June) in Morocco. The talent show promotes refugee talent and aims to spread an image of refugees based on the contributions that refugees can make to host societies.

The contest, which was hosted for the first time in 2016 by the UNHCR and the Foundation Orient-Occident, is open to all refugees living in Morocco between the ages of 16 and 65 years old.

Remittance and support services for Filipino migrants

Global Pinoy offers remittance services for global and local Filipinos online. Furthermore, Global Pinoy has partnered with SM Cares to establish SM Global Pinoy Centers in SM Malls nationwide that offer services catered to the needs of the Overseas Filipino Workers and their families. Such services include free internet services, mobile phone charging, voice calls, beverages, BDO Remittance Pick-up services, and Foreign Exchange services by the SM Department Store.
