Developing a Diaspora Engagement Policy to Integrate the Diaspora into Ghana's National Development Agenda

The role of the Ghanaian Diaspora in national development has, in recent years, won unprecedented recognition from the government at the highest levels. The Government values the ideas, skills and contributions of Ghanaians abroad, just as those living in Ghana, much more than any other natural resource and therefore, considers the entire Ghanaian populace as its basic first priority. Government has therefore, taken steps to leverage Diaspora knowledge, experience, skills and financial resources to complement those at home for accelerated national development.



Supporting diaspora productive investment programmes in Mali

The general objective is to support local development projects and productive investments (collective and individual) of the Malian diaspora in Mali with i) a dedicated support mechanism for entrepreneurs in France and country of origin ii) activities with public institutions and private sector institutions to improve the investment climate in countries of origin

Futurpreneur Canada – Newcomer Program

 Futurpreneur Canada is a national, non-profit organization that provides financing, mentoring and support tools to aspiring young business owners (aged 18-39).

 Its Newcomer Program provides tailored support to newcomers, including specific eligibility criteria for loan financing for young entrepreneurs (between the ages of 19-34) who have been in Canada for less than five years and who have limited or no established credit history in Canada.

Regulations for Easing the Integration of Syrians to Turkish Labour Market

As is known, there has been a huge Syrian flow to Turkey since April, 2011; due to the internal conflict in Syria. By the end of 2014 there are approximately 1 million 700 thousand Syrians living in or out of camps/shelters in our country. As the civil war extended and suitable conditions does not exist to return to Syria; it is crucial to provide them legal entrance into labour market to earn livelihood in order to keep the social peace remain.



Within this scope, two types of work permit applications can be made:

Easing of visa requirements for relatives of Syrian nationals living in Switzerland

Given the dramatic situation in Syria, Swiss authorities put in place an easing of visa requirements for relatives of Syrian nationals living in Switzerland from September to December 2013 and extended the concept of family reunification beyond the members of the nuclear family (spouses and children up to age 18) to other relatives in ascending and descending order (grandparents, parents, children over the age of 18 and grandchildren).

Thailand developed the National Education For All Plan of Action (EFA) for the period 2002-2015 to ensure that all persons shall enjoy their right to receive at least twelve years of a free, quality education provided by the government. One objective of the plan is that the provision of EFA is specifically aimed at disadvantaged groups including children without citizenship and those of an ethnic minority.
