To facilitate legal channels of migration, Kenya passed the Citizenship and immigration Act, 2011, the Employment Act, 2007 and the Labour Institutions Act. Regulations governing private recruitment agencies require recruitment agencies to charge from their principals a service fee to cover services rendered in the recruitment, documentation and placement of workers so that the migrant workers are not burdened with this cost.

Labour license for foreigners coming to Russia in a visa-free regime

In January 2015, work permits and quotas for work permits for foreign nationals from visa-free countries were cancelled, and replaced with a visa-free system that requires these employees to obtain licenses before they take up employment with companies, individual entrepreneurs, lawyers or notaries. The benefits for employers of this new licensing system are significant reductions in the bureaucracy involved in issuing work permit quotas to foreign workers, as well as in the number of irregular migrants.

E-visa system

Moldova has entered into visa-free agreements with the EU countries, Turkey, the Western Balkan states and a few Latin American countries. Learning from the experience of Australia, Moldova launched in August 2014 the e-visa system that gives access to citizens of other countries to travel easily to Moldova. 

Migration Law decriminalizing irregular migrants

In 2011, Mexico passed a law on migration which does not criminalize irregular migrants in the country. The new law guarantees that foreigners and Mexican nationals will receive equal treatment under Mexican law and decriminalizes undocumented immigration, reducing it to an administrative infraction, punishable with a fine of up to 100 days' worth of minimum wage. Under this equality principle all immigrants, regardless of status, nationality, or ethnicity, are granted the right to education and healthcare and are entitled to due process.

Labour market assessment and industry consultations

Australia’s immigration system has evolved to place emphasis on employer-sponsored, demand driven migration developed through broad consultations and programs with a wide range of stakeholders. A cornerstone of its migration program is labour market assessment (through the use of independent and accredited bodies with specialized knowledge of particular occupations), as well as consultations with the industry and the wider public through blogs, discussion papers and surveys.

Integrated legislative approach: bills for asylum seekers, anti-human trafficking and immigration.

The asylum seekers bill aims to ensure the protection for all people having fear of persecution because of their race and ethnicity. The anti-human trafficking bill has the objective of criminalizing human trafficking and protecting its victims. The bill on immigration aims to regulate entry and residence of people in Morocco. 

Inter-Ministerial Working Group for International Migration Policy

The inter-ministerial group aims to improve a coherent German policy and to promote dialogues in migration and refugee policy as part of a European joint strategy. The working group has a two-pronged mission. It is expected to develop a more coherent and unified migration policy, as well as ensure close cooperation and collaboration between various ministries involved. It also serves as a best practice for European partner countries.

Vivir la Integración (Living the Integration) Program

Despite having the same labour rights as Costa Rican citizens, migrants and refugees encounter barriers to a decent job. The program Vivir la Integración (Living the Integration) is thus developed to encourage companies to establish corporate social responsibility programs that  support the integration of refugees and those applying for refugee status.

Media, Immigration and Diversity

Starting in 2010, this seminar series have attracted more than 300 participants around Portugal. The objectives of the program include promoting diversity on the media, improving the theme of immigration in research and media production and promoting the values of intercultural diversity and integration of migrant communities.

Eight stories about the experience of migrants in Greece were broadcast on TV100, a TV channel serving northern Greece, following a TV & radio production training course on migration and diversity, organised jointly by the Media Diversity Institute and Symβiosis, in partnership with TV100 in 2012.
