Global Concessional Financing Facility Trust Fund (GCFF)

The World Bank developed the GCFF financing mechanism to support middle-income countries receiving refugees through beneficial loans. Currently, GCFF supports Jordan and Lebanon, which has received a large number of Syrian refugees. The facility has also been expanded to provide support for other middle-income countries receiving refugees (the global window).

ECOWAS Regional Guidelines on Migration Data Collection and Data Management

The Free Movement and Migration (FMM) West Africa project seeks to support the development of standardized procedures to collect and process migration-relevant data. The project also  supports the ECOWAS Commission in the development of a regional migration profile, providing an overview of migration data and trends in the ECOWAS region.

Governance of Temporary Labour Migration in the Gulf: Employer Perspectives on the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration

This report is based on a one-day consultation with private sector employers held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on 20 November 2017. The consultation was organised by the Federation of UAE Chambers of Commerce and Industry, in partnership with the UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) and the International Organization for Migrations (IOM), and in cooperation with the International Organisation of Employers (IOE) and the Global Forum for Migration and Development – Business Mechanism (GFMD – BM).

European Qualifications Passport

The European Qualifications Passport being piloted in Greece by various European agencies for the recognition and comparison of international qualifications and skills is another example to emulate. The “passports” confirm the qualifications and skills of migrants based on interviews and credential evaluations so that they can readily enter the labour market.

Skills2Work

IOM offices and partners launched Skills2Work to improve the access of employers and beneficiaries to information and services related to skills recognition.

The Skills2Work project aims to promote labour market integration of refugees by promoting the early validation of formal and informal skills and competences. This is achieved by supporting the reception framework and capacities of relevant authorities, service providers and employers, and by enhancing access to information and services regarding the recognition of skills and qualifications of refugees. 

Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas (2001)

Art. 35 of the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas (2001) covers the issue of acceptance of Diplomas, Certificates, and other Evidence of Qualifications among CARICOM countries. It mentions that Member States shall establish or employ, as the case may be, appropriate mechanisms to establish common standards to determine equivalency or accord accreditation to diplomas, certificates and other evidence of qualifications secured by nationals of other Member States.

Poverty Reduction through Skills Development for Safe and Regular Migration (PROMISE)

The Poverty Reduction through Safe Migration, Skills Development and Enhanced Job Placement in Cambodia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Myanmar and Thailand (PROMISE) project funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) aims to improve the employability of migrants; to promote safe migration from Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar into Thailand; and to contribute to poverty reduction in the region.
