Nauru

The purpose of this Country Strategy Paper (CSP) is to provide a framework for EC co-operation with Nauru under the Cotonou Agreement. The framework is based on global objectives of EC-ACP co-operation, Nauru’s own development policy, an analysis of the political and economic situation in the country, and an assessment of the past co-operation programmes of the EC and other donors. It concludes with the proposed EC response strategy of the 10th EDF and an Indicative Programme.

Namibia

One of the youngest nations in Africa, Namibia achieved independence from South Africa (SA) in 1990. Since then, politics have been dominated by a strong ruling party, SWAPO, whose leader, Dr Sam Nujoma, stepped down as President of Namibia in 2005. Namibia has a good track record of stable macro-economic management and a sound environment for private sector investment. It is rated the fifth least corrupt country in Africa. President Pohamba, who was elected in 2004, declared the fight against corruption a top priority.

Mozambique

The Union policy in the sphere of development cooperation complements the policies followed by the Member States and fosters the sustainable economic and social development of the developing countries, their smooth and gradual integration into the world economy and the campaign against poverty. Furthermore, Community policy in this area contributes to the general objectives of development, consolidating democracy and the rule of law and respecting human rights and fundamental freedoms.

Morocco

Since the 1960s, Morocco has evolved into one of the prime source countries of labour migrants to Europe. Increasing immigration restrictions in Europe did little to stop migration, and have led instead to the increasingly irregular character of migration and to the exploration of new destinations beyond the traditional ones of France and the Benelux countries. Since 1990, low-skilled Moroccan emigrants have increasingly headed to Italy and Spain, while the higher-skilled increasingly migrate to the US and Canada.

Montenegro

The Migration Profiles in South-Eastern Europe were created partly in reaction to the EU Council Conclusions of June 2007 on Extending and Enhancing the Global Approach to Migration, based on the Commission Communications of May 2007 on applying the Global Approach to migration to the Eastern and South-Eastern regions neighbouring the European Union and on circular migration and mobility partnerships, which particularly calls for drawing up country-specific migration profiles.
