Law and National Council for the Protection and Development of the Salvadoran Migrant Persons and their Families

The Law for the Protection and Development of the Salvadoran Migrant Persons and their Families (Ley Especial para la Protección y Desarrollo de la Persona Migrante Salvadoreña y su Familia) was passed by the Parliamentary Assembly in 2011. At the same time, the National Council for the Protection and Development of the Migrant Persons and their Families (Consejo Nacional para la Protección y Desarrollo de la Persona Migrante y su Familia) was created, a space where several government institutions, civil society organizations and the private sector are meeting regularly to establish policies that safeguard the migrants and their families. 

This Council is now led by the Vice Minister for Salvadorans abroad and a number of institutions, as the Ministry of Health, Agriculture or Economy, are taking part of it. The Ministry of Education for instance, worried about the children returnees, helps them to be reintegrated and reinserted in their schools. The governance of the Council is now under the stage of resource management and aims to integrate a series of projects within the plan for prosperity of the Northern Triangle in Central America.
