The UK Government’s Action Plan published in 2007 sets out a comprehensive strategy to tackle human trafficking and protect and support its victims. Provisions exist for a formal ID and referral process, a reflection period, minimum levels of support and temporary residence in certain circumstances.

The UK has also signed the Council of Europe Convention in 2007, and is implementing it as a priority in the Action Plan. The UK Department for International Development (DFID) supports trafficking prevention work in some developing countries of origin and transit, notably in SE Asia, as part of its broader poverty reduction programmes.
