Grameen Bank

 Professor Muhammad Yunus, the founder of “Grameen Bank” decided to reverse conventional banking practice by removing the need for collateral and creating a banking system based on mutual trust, accountability, participation, and creativity. The “Grameen Bank” provides credit to the poorest of the poor in rural Bangladesh, without any collateral as a cost-effective weapon to fight poverty.

 

 

FAO Safe Access to Fuel and Energy (SAFE)

FAO Safe Access to Fuel and Energy (SAFE) initiative addresses energy needs during emergencies and protracted crises, and builds resilient livelihoods in a sustainable manner. The work of the SAFE project in this area can have important multiplier effects – from better food security, nutrition and health, to the sustainable management of natural resources, greater resilience to climate change and natural hazards, and increased livelihood opportunities. 

Digitalizing migrant worker's remittances

This highly innovative project works to digitize migrant workers’ remittances both in Malaysia and in countries of origin through e-wallets (wallet-based mobile-enabled remittance system), thus providing remittance recipients access to additional financial services that meet their needs. It aims to link mobile-enabled remittances with digital financial services offered by third parties at the receiving end in Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Mainstreaming Migration into National Development Strategies Phase II

Migration is a global phenomenon affecting all countries worldwide and its effective governance needs global partnerships. It is within this context that, since 2011, IOM and UNDP have been implementing a Joint Global Programme on Mainstreaming Migration (MM) into National Development Strategies with funding from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. 

Skill Sector Councils

A key driver of current efforts to reform skills development in Bangladesh is the need to strengthen linkages between industry and the national training system. Industry Skills Councils (ISCs) help to achieve this by bringing together the major enterprises and industry bodies within an industry sector to discuss skill development issues affecting their sector.



Migration Governance Index

Jointly implemented with the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), the project involves the development of a policy-benchmarking framework to assess the extent to which national migration policies facilitate orderly, safe and well managed migration, as laid out in SDG Target 10.7.

6th Five Year Plan (2011-15) for development, Bangladesh

In view of the developmental impact of migration, Bangladesh has declared migration as a major thrust sector in Bangladesh, and as such migration has found extensive place throughout the Sixth "Five Year Plan" of Bangladesh which operates from 2011-2015. Major actions have also been initiated on migration governance. These include activities in legislative, policy, and institutional areas.

Encouraging savings and investments, Bangladesh

The Bangladesh Bank, national commercial banks, and public commercial banks have created a number of investment products aimed specifically at migrants and their families. These products include bonds, deposit pension schemes (DPS), fixed deposits, savings accounts, investment loans, and investments in capital markets through, for instance, the Non-Resident Investor’s Taka Account (NITA).

National Skills Development Policy

The comprehensive National Skills Development Policy in Bangladesh aims to guide skill development strategies and facilitate improved coordination of all elements of skills training and the parties involved. The Skills Development Policy contributes to the implementation of other national economic, employment, and social policies so that Bangladesh can achieve its goal of attaining middle income status in 2021.
