The Global Refugee Sponsorship Initiative (GRSI) is a joint initiative led by the Government of Canada; the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR); the Open Society Foundations; the Giustra Foundation; and the University of Ottawa, which works to share good practices and support the creation of new programs to assit countries around the world to open new pathways for refugee protection through community sponsorship programs. 

In 2018, the Canadian Federal Government lauched the 'Immigration Matters' initative to dispel common myths about immigrants and refugees, and promote positive engagement between Canadians and new migrants.

The Seasonal Agricultural Workers Program was established in 1974. It has proven to be a successful labour mobility program between Canada and Mexico; it is a model of international cooperation that has demonstrated the possibility to maintain an effective and regulated flow of migrant workers between the two countries.

OM, the UN Migration Agency, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate the ethical recruitment of Filipino workers between the Philippines and the Canadian provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan. The agreement will involve pilot testing the International Recruitment Integrity System (IRIS).

The agreement was signed on 8 June 2018 by IOM, the Ministry of Service of Alberta, the Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety of Saskatchewan and the Department of Labor and Employment of the Republic of the Philippines.

The Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot is a community-driven program designed to spread the benefits of economic immigration to smaller communities by creating a path to permanent residence for skilled foreign workers who want to work and live in rural communities where they can quickly become self-sufficient, and exercise their skills in agriculture and food production. This innovative, economic pilot will test a new community-driven approach to attracting and retaining newcomers to communities across Ontario, the Western provinces and the territories.

The Mexico-Canada High Level Dialogue on Human Mobility (DANMov) is the main dialogue mechanism between authorities of Mexico and Canada on migration issues. It takes place once a year, initiated first in 2016. Its objective is to promote the exchange of information on migration trends and good practices, and to facilitate the mobility of people, as well as strengthen regional and global cooperation towards orderly, safe and regular migratory flows. This mechanism has contributed to broaden the scope bilateral of cooperation on migration issues and strengthen mutual trust. 

The greater Toronto area receives a large number of immigrants each year, and a significant proportion of them are highly educated. The Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council (TRIEC) is a multi-stakeholder council that brings together 70 partners - including close to 40 employers - to create and champion solutions to better integrate skilled immigrants in the Toronto Region labour market.

In its 2015-2017 National Remittance Plan, the Government of Canada focused on increasing transparency and consumer protection for Canadian remitters; to this end, Canada has undertaken a national survey to better understand remittances providers’ needs and has been discussing with financial institutions how to improve remittance market competitiveness. 

The government of Canada assists immigrants in overcoming barriers so they can establish themselves and their families in Canadian communities through Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada’s (IRCC) Settlement Program.

Mauritius has the opportunity to capitalise on migration as a tool for social development and economic growth. 

Mauritius became a member of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in 2006 with a view to getting the assistance of the organization for Labour Migration. Consequently, as from 2007, IOM has been assisting the Ministry of Labour, Industrial Relations, Employment and Training (MLIRET) in facilitating the placement of Mauritian jobseekers in Canada.
