Center for the Local Integration of Migrants

This action was submitted through the GFMD Mayors Mechanism Call to Local Action for Migrants and Refugees.
The Local Integration Center for Migrants functions as a one-stop center that centralizes the services offered by the District of Barranquilla, the national level and international cooperation partners for the comprehensive care of the migrant, refugee, stateless and returnee population, mainly from Venezuela.

National Observatory of Migration and Health

In response to the migratory crisis that Colombia has experienced since 2015 due to the migratory flow from Venezuela. Taking into account the need that the Colombian State has to consolidate at the national level timely, and pertinent information on the characterization of the migrant population. Its situation of health, and access to health for the formulation, implementation, and monitoring of health care programs, strategies, and projects. The Ministry of Health, and Social Protection launched on December 2th, 2020 the National Observatory of Migration and Health.

Programme Migration & Diaspora (PMD)

The PMD programme is financed by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and supports key actors in making more effective use of regular migration and diaspora engagement to achieve their development goals. Guided by the Global Compact for Migration (GCM), the program is implemented by GIZ in up to 25 partner countries and focuses on the following three components:

 

Supporting host communities for refugees and migrants from Venezuela in the border regions of Colombia and Ecuador

Commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), this programme implemented by GIZ supports government institutions, local governments and civil society in the border regions of Colombia with Venezuela and Ecuador with Colombia to better respond to the flow of refugees and migrants from Venezuela and, in the case of Ecuador, also Colombian refugees. The project supports host communities in the integration of refugees and migrants.

 

Banking on women

Across Latin America and the Caribbean, Banking on Women helps financial institutions offer women entrepreneurs financial and non-financial services such as advisory support. Through Banking on Women, IFC has supported female entrepreneurs with direct investments, mobilized investments, and advice through banks in Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, and Mexico.

 

 

FAO Early Warning Early Action System (EWEA)

FAO Early Warning Early Action System (EWEA) translates warnings into anticipatory actions to reduce the impact of specific disaster events. It focuses on consolidating available forecasting information and putting plans in place to make sure FAO acts when a warning is at hand. At the country level, the EWEA team works closely with country offices to develop EWEA systems tailored to the local context.

Projects to improve Colombian trade unions

The ILO project “Development of capacities to promote union affiliation and coverage of collective bargaining in Colombia” (COL/13/05/ NOR) sought to develop the internal capacities of trade unions, complementing the projects that had been developed before in the field of strengthening of tripartite spaces. According to the final evaluation of the project, the context also played an important role in its success, through the approval of Decrees 160 and 017, which have facilitated social dialogue between public authorities and trade unions.

MERCOSUR Residence Agreement

Nationals of signatory States may apply for a temporary residence permit of up to two years in another country of the block, and may apply for permanent residence before expiration of the temporary residence permit. These nationals are also provided work permits, the only requirements being that they present a valid passport, birth certificate and police clearance certificate.
