Licensing of Private Employment Agencies

The Ministry of Labour and Productivity invoked the provision of the Labour Act of Nigeria in 2006 to begin the registration of private employment agencies. Conditions for registration as private employment agencies were made stringent enough to discourage fraudulent companies from engaging in job matching and labour contracting both domestically and internationally.

Work in Freedom Programme: Collaborative Action Programme to Prevent Trafficking of Women and Girls in South Asia (2013 - 2018)

A five-year, technical cooperation programme with a targeted approach for the trafficking of women and girls from South Asia. The objective is to reach 100,000 women and girls in major South Asian countries and major destination countries of South Asian workers for an overall reduction of incidences.

Migration Information Bureau

The Migration Information Bureau was set up in July 2006 and it has been in charge of prevention and awareness raising on the risks and costs of irregular migration. The Service has recently launched a documentary to be aired on all the country's TV channels and has been involved in Public Education Campaigns (PEC's) throughout the country, involving lectures, drama, stories of returnees, leaflets and posters.

OPI - Child Protection Officers

In order to better protect migrant children, Mexico has created a unique model for the Protection of Unaccompanied Migrant and returnee children and adolescents. The model includes the creation of a specialized corps of child protection officers (in Spanish: Oficial de Protección a la Infancia, OPI) within the National Migration Institute (INM).

 

Policy Memorandum International Migration and Development 2008

The policy memorandum sets out the migration and development policy framework for the Government of The Netherlands, focusing on six key policy priorities aimed at areas in which the Netherlands can make a difference, such as institutional development in migration management; promoting circular migration and brain gain; strengthening the involvement of migrant organizations; strengthening the link between remittances and development and encouraging sustainable return and reintegration.
