Migration Management

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) have begun construction of a Migration Consultation Centre (MCC) in Sunyani. The construction is part of a larger information campaign to promote safe and legal migration under IOM’s Ghana Integrated Migration Management Approach (GIMMA) project, funded by the European Union (EU). The MCC aims to facilitate and empower migrants to travel in a legal, voluntary, orderly and protected way.

For the first time since independence in 1957, the Government of Ghana has formulated a National Migration Policy (NMP) to help manage its internal and international migration flows in the context of national development as well as sub-regional, regional and global interests. The Government of Ghana formally approved it in April 2015, policy which was developed with support from IOM Ghana and the IOM Development Fund (IDF).

International Organization for Migration (IOM)'s project aims to support the relevant authorities and other stakeholders in migration management with a focus on promoting the health and wellbeing amongst migrants transiting through Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia, Yemen and Libya. All countries and the activities are ODA eligible.

The goal of the project is to improve the human security of Ngöbe and Buglé migrant populations.

The project’s objective is to promote economic security and social cohesion towards improving the overall human security of vulnerable communities in Sandžak. To this end, the project proposes to: (i) improve income generation and open employment opportunities for vulnerable populations; (ii) enhance inter-ethnic understanding and community cohesion; (iii) increase access to social and public services and provide official documentation to displaced groups; and (iv) promote the human security concept within central and local governments and civil society organizations.

The twinning project  "Support to the National Asylum System in the Republic of Serbia“ is funded by the European Union and implemented by the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration and Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Serbia in partnership with the Swedish Migration Agency, Immigration and Naturalization Service of the Netherlands and Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Slovenia.

The Government of Nigeria has formally adopted a National Policy on Migration and its Implementation Plan in 2015, with support from IOM and the European Union (EU). The policy and its implementation plan provide an appropriate legal framework for monitoring and regulating internal and international migration, and proper collection and dissemination of migration data.

The ICMPD Asylum Programme for ICMPD Member States provides a forum for asylum experts and policy makers of ICMPD Member States to exchange views on current challenges in the area of asylum. The exchange of ICMPD Member States on asylum-related 'hot issues' are mainly being facilitated in the framework of round table discussions and/or expert hearings. As is known, there has been a huge Syrian flow to Turkey since April, 2011; due to the internal conflict in Syria. By the end of 2014 there are approximately 1 million 700 thousand Syrians living in or out of camps/shelters in our country. As the civil war extended and suitable conditions does not exist to return to Syria; it is crucial to provide them legal entrance into labour market to earn livelihood in order to keep the social peace remain.
