Migration and integration management

Migration and integration affect various different policy areas, such as education, employment and health. The project supports coordination between the relevant ministries at national level in order to ensure coherent implementation of the national strategy. In addition, exchange and communication formats are created between ministries at national level and local officials in the ten partner municipalities Béni Mellal, Casablanca, Fès, Marrakesh, Nador, Oujda, Rabat, Salé, Tanger and Tiznit to implement the strategy jointly and to draw up policy recommendations.

Global Interagency Programme: Joint Migration and Development Initiative projects

The Joint Migration and Development Initiative (JMDI) is a global inter-agency programme funded by the European Union and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. It focuses on the local dimension of migrants’ contribution to development and aims to maximize the potential of migration for local development. To achieve this, the JMDI provides technical and financial support to up-scale existing locally-led migration and development initiatives across 15 projects in eight target countries: Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Morocco, Nepal, Philippines, Senegal and Tunisia.

‘Migration and Development’ Association: Linking communities with their diaspora for local development

The association ‘Migration and Development’ is a civil society organization which has been engaged in integrated and participative development with migrants in southern Morocco for many years. Its engagement is anchored in the intention of enhancing the synergies between migrants and their territories in their community of origin. As such, the communities of origin are strongly involved in defining their needs and ensuring that migrants’ contributions are factored in when seeking to contribute to the development of communities of origin.

IOM technical support in Morocco for development of the National Strategy on Immigration and Asylum

In 2014, IOM, in collaboration with the Ministry of Moroccans Residing Abroad and Migration Affairs, organized an international conference in Rabat entitled "The New Migration Policy: Which Integration Strategy for Morocco?”. The two day conference, which brought together over 200 participants representing national institutions, Moroccan civil society and diplomatic corps accredited in Morocco, aimed to facilitate dialogue on and develop optimal policies for the integration of migrants in Morocco, and to develop a National Strategy on Immigration and Asylum.

Council of the Moroccan Community living abroad (CCME)

A national consultative institution placed by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Council of the Moroccan Community living abroad (CCME) was established by Royal Decree in December 2007, and was made constitutional ensuing the July 2011 reform in the constitution approved by referendum.

The CCME's responsibilities include the monitoring and evaluation of the country's public policies in regards to its nationals abroad.

Promoting health and wellbeing amongst migrants transiting through Morocco, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia and Yemen

International Organization for Migration (IOM)'s project aims to support the relevant authorities and other stakeholders in migration management with a focus on promoting the health and wellbeing amongst migrants transiting through Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia, Yemen and Libya. All countries and the activities are ODA eligible.

Interrelations between Public Policies, Migration and Development: Case studies and policy recommendations (IPPMD)

In January 2013, the OECD launched the project, “Interrelations between Public Policies, Migration and Development: case studies and policy recommendations”, which aims to enhance partner countries’ capacity to incorporate migration into the design and implementation of their development strategies. The project seeks to better understand how international migration affects non-migration related public policies, and conversely, how these affect migration.
