Not for Sale Campaign

Submitted by Mr. Camille Saadé on

Joint-funded by the UK Home Office and Department for International Development, and led by the Government Communication Service International, the ‘Not for Sale’ campaign had three objectives:

Programme Migration & Diaspora (PMD)

Submitted by Ms. Charlotte … on

The PMD programme is financed by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and supports key actors in making more effective use of regular migration and diaspora engagement to achieve their development goals. Guided by the Global Compact for Migration (GCM), the program is implemented by GIZ in up to 25 partner countries and focuses on the following three components:

FAO Safe Access to Fuel and Energy (SAFE)

Submitted by Ms. Charlotte … on

FAO Safe Access to Fuel and Energy (SAFE) initiative addresses energy needs during emergencies and protracted crises, and builds resilient livelihoods in a sustainable manner. The work of the SAFE project in this area can have important multiplier effects – from better food security, nutrition and health, to the sustainable management of natural resources, greater resilience to climate change and natural hazards, and increased livelihood opportunities.

Cross-border Cooperation

Submitted by Mr. Camille Saadé on

The West Africa Network for the protection of children focuses on ensuring a continuum of services are delivered across the region within and eight-step procedure, ranging from the identification of a vulnerable child and provision of emergency care to their successful social re-integreation.

Establishment of Diaspora Commission

Submitted by Mr. Ace Paolo … on

The Government of Nigeria is currently focusing on creating an enabling environment for the Nigerian diaspora to contribute to national development on the understanding that the diaspora can only make meaningful contributions to national development when the favourable conditions are put in place. On 30 June 2017, Nigerian Government signed the Nigerian Citizens in Diaspora Commission Establishment Bill 2017. The Commission has the responsibility to coordinate and organise Nigerians in and from the diaspora to contribute human capital and material resources, including their expertise, for t

Bilateral partnership on migration between Switzerland and Nigeria

Submitted by Mr. Camille Saadé on

Switzerland and Nigeria have had a successful migration partnership framework for more than 5 years. It includes return migration management as part of the framework.

In 2011, Switzerland and Nigeria concluded a migration partnership, which is a centrepiece of their relations. Together the two States have undertaken to promote the positive aspects of migration and to fight its negative sides.

Nigeria

Migration has become an increasingly important issue affecting many countries, and it is important for accurate and reliable migration data to be produced by government to inform policy making. In Nigeria, the Technical Working Group (TWG) on Migration and Development, consisting of different government ministries, was established during the process of developing the profile to ensure ownership of the whole process of production and usage of the data.

National Policy on Migration

Submitted by Ms. Laurence BRON on

The Government of Nigeria has formally adopted a National Policy on Migration and its Implementation Plan in 2015, with support from IOM and the European Union (EU). The policy and its implementation plan provide an appropriate legal framework for monitoring and regulating internal and international migration, and proper collection and dissemination of migration data.

Migration Dialogue for West Africa (MIDWA)

Submitted by Ms. Laurence BRON on

The Migration Dialogue for West Africa or MIDWA was designed as a platform to encourage the Member States of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to discuss, in a regional context, such common migration issues and concerns for which immediate solutions may not be forthcoming at a national level. Its objective is to promote and ensure high quality cooperation among ECOWAS Member States, third countries and other international consultative forums on Free Movement and migration by:
