For pre- departure orientation, the Bangladesh government has, with an international partner, introduced destination-specific, pocket-size handbooks containing key information about the law, culture, language, emergency contacts, remittance transfer method etc. of the destination country. 

Gangmasters Licensing Authority (GLA)

The UK Gangmasters Licensing Authority (GLA) was set up to protect workers from exploitation. The  licensing scheme regulates businesses who provide workers to the fresh produce supply chain and horticulture industry, to make sure they meet the employment standards required by law. Employment agencies, labour providers or gangmasters who provide workers to agriculture, horticulture, shellfish gathering and any associated processing and packaging sectors need a GLA license. 

The Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS)

Thailand aims at addressing the socio-economic disparities that are seen to be one of the main causes of migration in the sub-region. For this reason its capacity building efforts in the sub-region involve a range of economic development projects along border areas with neighboring countries, notably (but not limited to) under the ACMECS framework.

The National Committee on Combating Trafficking in Children and Women

The 2008 Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act created a National Committee on Combating Trafficking in Children and Women under the National Youth Commission of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS) to coordinate all anti-trafficking efforts.

Child Protection Monitoring System

The CPMRS project, launched by UNICEF in 2006 in association with key government and university partners, was intended to develop an integrated child protection system in the six tsunami-affected provinces in southern Thailand. The project was expected to: increase public awareness of children’s rights to protection; track the magnitude of child protection issues at local, provincial and national levels in Thailand; and provide adequate response mechanisms for identifying children in need of special protection and for delivering suitable child protection services as early as possible.

Bilateral Labour Agreements signed by Spain

In these agreements regulating labour migration flows, the Spanish authorities, through Spanish Embassies in origin countries, notify the origin countries’ authorities of the number and type of workers needed, taking into account existing job offers. (There is no set quota; rather, the employers in Spain request a certain number of needed workers.) Origin countries in turn notify the Spanish authorities, through the Spanish Embassies, of the possibility of meeting this demand with their nationals willing to go to Spain.

Ibero-american Multilateral Agreement on Social Security

The Multilateral Social Security Agreement is an instrument for coordinating the Social Security legislation on pensions of the different Ibero-American countries. The Ibero-American Multilateral Agreement on Social Security is a pioneering experiment with the objective of guaranteeing the rights of Ibero-American migrant  workers and their families to a contributory old-age, disability or survivors’ pension within a common area, the Ibero-American Community, formed by 22 countries of Latin America and the Caribbean and the European Union.
