The Moldovan government launched "e Moldova ta”, which is an online communication platform promoting diaspora engagement, information services, mobilisation of expertise for different sectors and active participation in the development of our country.

The model of engaging diaspora in local development is successfully adopted by the Government of the Republic of Moldova at the national level with the Diaspora Succeeds at Home “DAR 1+3” Program. Implemented in 2020 by the State Chancellery, through the Bureau for Diaspora Relations (BDR), it focuses on mobilising diaspora’s human and financial potential for the local socio-economic development of the country.

The D4C initiative is funded by the IOM Development Fund and capitalizes on the dynamic link between diaspora communities and their home countries to enhance responses to climate change. It strategically focuses on priority sectors in four countries: Moldova, Bangladesh, Ghana, and Jamaica. These countries are all significantly affected by the negative impacts of climate change, and the challenges they face require immediate action from a variety of stakeholders.

The Municipality of Straseni commits to facilitate refugees and host communities’ access to information about their rights. The municipality will launch an information and awareness-raising campaign about refugees’ and migrants’ rights, which will be complemented by a series of workshops and legal consulting sessions for refugees. Other activities to support refugee inclusion, such as visits to local museums for refugee children, will also be implemented in parallel.

The M4SD Programme (2019-2023) aimed to harness the development benefits and reduce the negative effects of migration for host and home communities, migrants, and their family members. A key component of this Programme was to showcase how inclusive policies can be implemented locally and how the results contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Local governments successfully piloted a Hometown Associations model with more than 160 registered associations that systematically engage the diaspora in local development projects and initiatives.

The DAR programme aims to utilise the human and financial potential of the diaspora in the socioeconomic development of Moldova. The DAR programme is based on the 1 + 3 principle of the partnership:
diaspora + government and/or local authorities + development partners and donors. The project focuses
on infrastructure; protection of the environment; economy; optimisation of energy; culture; and social
protection

Over 24 months, the proposed project aims to mainstream the migration, environment and climate change nexus into national adaptation planning. Firstly, IOM Moldova, together with the University of Vienna, will assess how, when and where migration ñ in its different forms ñ contributes to climate change adaptation and climate resilience, with a special focus on slow-onset hazards.

Serve as a ëLinkedIn for Moldovan Diasporaí (including around 1000 profiles) and to create a community of professionals and share knowledge related to various professional fields.
Activities: diaspora members can register in an online portal, create their profile to implement projects, organise trainings, exchange on the forum, look for partners and post job offers.
