Moldovan Diaspora Congress

The Diaspora Congress is a platform held every two years in order to strengthen communication between the government and the diaspora. The Congress focuses on multilateral discussions between government officials and representatives of the diaspora regarding the diaspora's policies and the impact of migration on the economic, social, academic and political situation in the country.

Diaspora Days

Developed by the Bureau for Relations with the Diasporas, the Diaspora Days are aimed at promoting tourism, cultural and economic dialogue, mobilizing diaspora associations and civil society for joint actions to contribute to sustainable development and promoting Moldova internationally.

The organization of events dedicated to Diaspora Days is a perfect occasion to attract migrants and to get them interested in developing local infrastructure, creating services for children and the elderly, launching businesses.

Money transfer between postal services

The service contributes to enhancing the capacities of the national Moldovan money transfer services providers in order to diversify the existent transfer channels and ensure their transparency and costs reduction, through establishing an efficient and sustainable international money transfers system between Italy, Spain, Portugal and the Republic of Moldova.

Law on Integration of Foreigners

This law has been established given the need to build a uniform legal framework for the integration of foreigners in the economic, social and cultural life of the Republic of Moldova, to ensure the rights, freedoms and obligations. This law provides partial transposition of the European Council Directive no. 83/2004/CE of 29 April 2004 on minimum standards for the qualification to be third country nationals or stateless persons as refugees or benefit of persons who otherwise need international protection and the content protection granted.  

Building capacity for coordination of social security for migrant workers

The project aimed at improving the social security benefits for Moldovan migrant workers by enhancing the capacity of the Moldovan government in negotiating, adopting, and implementing bilateral social security agreements with major destination countries of Moldovan migrant workers. The project contributes to improving the impact of migration on development and on poverty reduction by ensuring the right of social security for the Moldovan migrant workers and their families.

Prime Minister’s Decree nr. 58-d (07.06.2013) regarding the appointment of Diaspora Focal Points

Following the Government’s policy regarding the relations with the Diaspora and the cooperation with the international partners in the field of migration and development, the Prime Minister’s Decree nr. 58-d (of June 7th 2013) creates the framework for the implementation of the “whole-of-Government” approach in the field of DMD (Diaspora, Migration and Development).

IOM – UNDP Global Project “Mainstreaming of Migration into Development in Moldova” (MOMID) Phase I (2012 – 2013)

“NEXUS Moldova”: Strengthening the link between migration and development: testing an integrated service provider to Moldovan migrants and their communities

The overall objective of the EU funded project NEXUS Moldova is to foster links between migration and development at the local level, by developing durable capacities and systematic collaboration among national and sub-national authorities, civil society and private-sector stakeholders.

Diaspora Business Forum (1st edition / 2014)

On the 6th – 7th October 2014, the Diaspora Relations Bureau in partnership with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) organized the 1st edition of the Diaspora Business Forum, under the aegis of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova.

The general objectives where to improve the business-enabling environment at the national level by organizing an event and follow-up platform for effective dialogue between the diaspora business community and Government, as well as facilitating information-sharing with potential investors.

National Employment Agency

Regarding the recognition of skills and qualifications, in partnership with the Swedish National Employment Agency, Moldova is consolidating its own National Employment Agency with the use of the latest tools and information technology, such as e-job fairs. An internship portal has recently been launched which motivates young Moldovans to return back home even for short periods of time. Moldova is undergoing projects on supporting migrants’ employment and skills recognition at the regional level.
