Making migration and mobility positive forces for development

Bring together representatives of diaspora communities and governments of countries of origin and destination for round-table debates on sharing best practices and on recognising the role and needs of diaspora communities in development and investment in countries of origin as well as in integration in the host societies.

After the adoption of the Building Migration Partnerships Joint Declaration in Prague in April 2009, the Building Migration Partnerships initiative (BMP) started to work on establishing the BMP Knowledge Base. The Knowledge Base, nowadays known as the Prague Process Knowledge Base, consists of a set of Extended Migration Profiles1 elaborated and endorsed in 2010-2011 and the interactive online map (i-Map), which visualizes the available information.

The Government of Germany, supports the establishment of a training and information centre in Shakhrizabz, Uzbekistan, which inter alia offers business start-up training, enhancement of entrepreneurship skills, and financial literacy courses to returning migrants and families, as well as the local unemployed.

The Council has been established as an effective mechanism of cooperation. In practice, Russia and partners from CIS have signed bilateral and multilateral agreements and schemes for organized recruitment of foreign labour force which guarantee migrants with rights, competitive salaries, security and other crucial issues.
