Germany-Morocco 2017-2018

This report is based on a one-day consultation with private sector employers held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on 20 November 2017. The consultation was organised by the Federation of UAE Chambers of Commerce and Industry, in partnership with the UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) and the International Organization for Migrations (IOM), and in cooperation with the International Organisation of Employers (IOE) and the Global Forum for Migration and Development – Business Mechanism (GFMD – BM).

In 2015 Mauritius set up a diaspora scheme. It has been set up with the aim to attract members of the Mauritian Diaspora back to Mauritius to participate in the economic development of the country. It is open to any diaspora member who is willing to return and participate to the development of the country. It provides a package of incentives and benefits, such as income tax exemption, import allowances, a waiver on custom duties, exemption of payment for registration fees for residential property and a status.

In February 2016, a very progressive national law on human mobility was approved (recognized by ILO and UNHCR) to guarantee migrants can have identity cards etc.; and exercise all rights of Ecuadorians particularly access to high-level universal health and education, as well as access to justice.

In 2008 Ecuador initiated a National Plan for Human Development for Migration - Plan nacional de desarollo humano para las migraciones - which was a pioneer in Ecuador and Latin America for public policies that protect and promote the human rights of all migrants as well as their empowerment

In the recent Danish Strategy on Development Cooperation and Humanitarian action,  Denmark is combining its humanitarian strategy and its development cooperation strategy into one joint strategy. The strategy has four strategic objectives:

This framework has been developed to help DFID take the right decisions to have the greatest impact on stability. The UK has committed to spend at least half of DFID’s budget in fragile states and regions in every year of this Parliament. The highest development returns may lie in the long-term foundations for a future free of violence, rather than in those immediate gains which remain critically vulnerable to being destroyed by conflict. 

To support UNCTs in the Global South, the Global Migration Group (GMG) conducted an extensive consultative process involving all GMG agencies and working groups, the UN Development Operations Coordination Office, and civil society organizations. The outcome of this process is a comprehensive Guidance Note on Integrating Migration and Displacement into UNDAFs that introduces UNCTs and government partners to the various programmatic links between sustainable development, migration and displacement.

The US offers contingency planning for its citizens overseas.

The concept of consular assistance has been extended beyond the core disasters and provides assistance in case of hospitalization, death of a family member, victimization of a crime. In every country, the US has contingencies for possible crisis (hurricanes, nuclear disaster, flooding, rioting, civil unrest) and undertake exercises every year or two to update them, involving the US military and the US country.

Welcoming America has created the Welcoming Standard to outline the core of what it means for a community to be welcoming and sets out the smart local policies, programs, and partnerships that give local communities the welcoming edge.

The training manual Gender on the Move: Working on the Migration-Development Nexus from a Gender Perspective aims to build the gender analysis capacity of an array of actors working on topics related to migration and development.
