Healthy Migrants in Healthy Communities

Through its policy of “Healthy Migrants in Healthy Communities,” Thailand has provided access to health services and health insurance for both documented and undocumented migrants including their dependents.

Under the Compulsory Migration Health Insurance (CMHI) scheme, the yearly premium for an adult is an affordable 1,600 THB or 44 USD per year, while the premium for a child is only 365 THB or 11 USD per year.

Mainstreaming Migration into Development Planning, A handbook for policy-makers and practitioners

This handbook responds to the gap between talk and action, acting as a step-by-step guide for policymakers, giving practical meaning to the concept of Migration and Development.

The handbook is primarily concerned with international migration, and with national development processes and instruments in developing countries. The primary target audiences for this handbook are those interested in or responsible for facilitating a strategy for integrating migration into development planning processes of developing countries.

Beta Groups

Specialized staff dedicated to protect and advocate for the human rights of migrants, regardless of their nationality or migratory status, during their transit by Mexico. These groups provide also support, rescue, relief, humanitarian assistance, legal advice and orientation. 

Grupos Beta (Beta Groups) is a service by the National Institute of Migration (INM) of Mexico dedicated to the protection and defense of the human rights of migrants and are specialized in providing orientation, rescue and first aid, regardless of nationality or immigration status.

United States-Mexico Border Health Commission

The mission of the United States-México Border Health Commission is to provide international leadership to optimize health and quality of life along the US-México border.

They have designed joint cross-border strategies to preserve, improve and care for the health of the Mexican migrant population. These include information, referrals, engagement of local migrant networks and access to services, as well as training and guidelines to service providers.

Bi-national Migrant Education Program (PROBEM)

The Bi-national Migrant Education Program (PROBEM) targets the educational problem of the migrant population between both countries. It aims to ensure the continuity and quality of children and young people basic education that spend part of their school year in Mexico and another in the USA.  

This program falls under the Mexico-United States Cooperation Initiative on Education that has established programs in the US to facilitate access to education for Mexican migrants and increase their potential to adapt locally.

 

Community Plazas

Community Plaza is a project which incorporates the use of new information and communication technologies applied to education and formation targeting Mexicans residing in the USA. This is a result of joined efforts by several institutions to promote diversified educational actions.

Scholarships from the Institute for Mexicans Abroad (IME - Becas Program)

The IME-Becas program aims to elevate the educational level of the Mexican population or the Mexican Diaspora residing in the USA, by assigning resources to non-profit organizations. Child Protection Monitoring System

The CPMRS project, launched by UNICEF in 2006 in association with key government and university partners, was intended to develop an integrated child protection system in the six tsunami-affected provinces in southern Thailand. The project was expected to: increase public awareness of children’s rights to protection; track the magnitude of child protection issues at local, provincial and national levels in Thailand; and provide adequate response mechanisms for identifying children in need of special protection and for delivering suitable child protection services as early as possible.

Ibero-american Multilateral Agreement on Social Security

The Multilateral Social Security Agreement is an instrument for coordinating the Social Security legislation on pensions of the different Ibero-American countries. The Ibero-American Multilateral Agreement on Social Security is a pioneering experiment with the objective of guaranteeing the rights of Ibero-American migrant  workers and their families to a contributory old-age, disability or survivors’ pension within a common area, the Ibero-American Community, formed by 22 countries of Latin America and the Caribbean and the European Union.

Temporary Protection Status (Sweden)

According to the Swedish Aliens law, persons who are found not to be “convention” refugees under the 1951 Refugees Convention may also qualify for asylum under a category known as ‘persons in need of protection – skyddsbehövande’. This includes those that have left their native country and have good reason to fear capital punishment, torture, need protection due to war (internal/external) or an environmental disaster in their native country
