The Colombia GFMD 2024-2025 Chairship

Building a collaborative agenda:
Open consultations with Member States, International Organizations, GFMD mechanisms and the Migration Youth and Children Platform will shape the thematic priorities that will be at the centre of the GFMD dialogue during the Chairship of Colombia.

The overarching theme of the GFMD 2024-2025 program will focus on 'Regular Migration, Labour Mobility and Human Rights: Pillars of Development and Well-Being of Societies', crosscutting through six salient thematic priorities, reflecting the profound realities of our times:

  1. Strength in Movement: The Impact of Women on Global Migration and Development
  2. Children and Youth on the Move: Innovators for Tomorrow’s Development
  3. The Interplay of Media and Culture to Construct and Deconstruct the Reality of Migration
  4. Climate Change: Safe Labour Routes as a Bridge to Prosperity
  5. Regional Cooperation and Integration to Promote Safe and Regular Migration for Development
  6.  New Technologies and Digitalization: Improving Migration Management and Regular Migration Pathways

New modalities and formats:
The GFMD 2024-2025, chaired by Colombia, aims to refresh the GFMD dialogue space. New formats for the six thematic roundtables are going to be proposed to the GFMD community with the aim of making discussions more informal and interactive. Facilitation techniques will be introduced with the aim of promoting opportunities for networking and partnerships throughout GFMD events. The roundtable formats will be tested during the Roundtable Consultations that are part of the GFMD Preparatory Process and then fine-tuned for the 15th GFMD Summit.

A Structured Conversation:
Each Roundtable Consultation will be dedicated to exploring and discussing a specific angle of the topics facilitating a logical progression throughout the preparatory phase and in the lead up to the 15th GFMD Summit:

  • The first roundtable consultations will focus on challenges and opportunities related to each of the six thematic priorities.
  • The second roundtable consultations will focus on the exchange of policies and practices.
  • The third roundtable consultations will focus on solutions and partnerships.

At the 15th Summit, the discussions will allow participants to build on the outcomes of the preparatory process focusing on solutions and partnerships.
