Mauritius has the opportunity to capitalise on migration as a tool for social development and economic growth. 

Mauritius became a member of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in 2006 with a view to getting the assistance of the organization for Labour Migration. Consequently, as from 2007, IOM has been assisting the Ministry of Labour, Industrial Relations, Employment and Training (MLIRET) in facilitating the placement of Mauritian jobseekers in Canada. 

The Government of Nigeria is currently focusing on creating an enabling environment for the Nigerian diaspora to contribute to national development on the understanding that the diaspora can only make meaningful contributions to national development when the favourable conditions are put in place. On 30 June 2017, Nigerian Government signed the Nigerian Citizens in Diaspora Commission Establishment Bill 2017. The Commission has the responsibility to coordinate and organise Nigerians in and from the diaspora to contribute human capital and material resources, includi

Sweden through the Swedish Consumer Agency, is missioned to provide a web-based information service for remittances. The service aims at creating transparency about different modes of remittances and the costs of these, thus increasing competition so that transfer costs can be reduced. Since 2018 additional resources have been added to the Consumer Agency to continue to provide and develop the service. The costs of sending remittances from Sweden have in some cases been relatively high.

Migrants, forced or voluntary contribute the vibrancy, growth and quality of life a city can offer. Jamaica’s long-term development plan, Vision 2030 Jamaica– National Development Plan recognizes that in an environment characterized by high levels of crime and violence and inequitable dispensation of justice, citizens and migrants are alienated and less productive than they might be, and are more likely to engage in destructive behaviour. This fuels a vicious cycle that militates against achievement of positive social, economic and cultural outcomes.

The objectives of the project is to support the government in its efforts to mobilize Togolese diaspora for the development of Togo and is implemented by the NGO MARS.  MARS organized information and awareness-raising workshops with state actors of development and civil society actors, to adhere to the project. MARS implemented a database of Togolese living in Germany, France, Benin and Ghana, and finance and accompanied five projects of migrants.

Culture should be considered as a factor of integration, which should make it possible to meet the societal challenge of how to live together in a context of globalization and mobility. Because culture cannot be reduced to an element of attractiveness of the territory, it is also an element of social cohesion, the foundation of a sharing of a common destiny. 

With the objective of improving the integration of migrants in Morocco, GIZ commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) supports local actors in the implementation of pilot projects to facilitate economic, social and cultural integration. The project "Bien Vivre Ensemble" (Living well together) which is being carried out in the district of CYM in Rabat aims at improving the integration of migrants by raising awareness about the importance of the values of living together. 

 

In 2015 Mauritius set up a diaspora scheme. It has been set up with the aim to attract members of the Mauritian Diaspora back to Mauritius to participate in the economic development of the country. It is open to any diaspora member who is willing to return and participate to the development of the country. It provides a package of incentives and benefits, such as income tax exemption, import allowances, a waiver on custom duties, exemption of payment for registration fees for residential property and a status.

In February 2016, a very progressive national law on human mobility was approved (recognized by ILO and UNHCR) to guarantee migrants can have identity cards etc.; and exercise all rights of Ecuadorians particularly access to high-level universal health and education, as well as access to justice.
