Intergovernmental consultations on migration asylum and refugees (IGC)

The IGC is an informal, non-decision making forum for intergovernmental information exchange and policy debate on issues of relevance to the management of international migratory flows.

The IGC brings together 16 Participating States, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the International Organization for Migration and the European Commission. The Participating States are Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom and United States of America.

Georgian State Commission on Migration Issues

The State Commission on Migration Issues was set up on 13 October 2010 on the basis of the Government's Decree No. 314. The Commission is the Government's consultative body to discuss and take decisions on various important issues related to migration management.

The Commission comprising of 12 government entities is chaired by the Minister of Justice and co-chaired by the Deputy Minister of the Interior.

eMigrate Project

eMigrate project is a transformational initiative of the Overseas Employment Division of MEA, Government of India, to automate the current emigration processes and eco-system.

The ministry has undertaken this transformational e-governance program with a vision to transform emigration into a simple, transparent, orderly and humane process.

Bureau of Migration Asylum

The Bureau of Migration and Asylum (BMA) is a subdivision of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), which main attribution is control of immigration process in Moldova. The IOM collaboration with the BMA stared back in 2000s, when BMA was subordinated to the Government. The BMA underwent a series of reforms, which led to restructuring of its main attributions and subordination to the MIA.  The IOM supported BMA during this process, especially in the readmission domain and improving the irregular migrants’ conditions of stay in the Migrant Accommodation Center of the BMA.

Law on the Assessment of Equivalence of Vocational Qualifications

Germany’s Law on the Assessment of Equivalence of Vocational Qualifications (BQFG) was passed in 2012. It is an important building block for securing the requirement for skilled workers in Germany. It makes it easier for skilled workers from abroad to use their professional or vocational qualifications on the German labour market and thus provides a greater incentive to come to Germany. In Germany, Federal States designate the responsible recognizing/credentialing body, and sometimes are responsible themselves. They work closely with the private sector.

Information and Communication Technology Council

Canada has industry associations that coordinate with the government, private sector, and civil society to inform immigration policies and capacity building programs. For example, The Information and Communication Technology Council (ICTC) of Canada coordinates with governments, associations, schools, employers, and immigrant and community organizations to ensure that employers meet their hiring needs. ICTC works to inform immigration policies governing the admission of tech and IT talent based on employer feedback.

The German returnees programme "Returning to New Opportunities"

The German government has launched a new initiative entitled “Returning to New Opportunities”, which aims at supporting people returning to their countries of origin to reintegrate by providing economic opportunities and the chance of a new start. An additional amount of 150 million euros was committed for the program. Currently, the following countries are part of it: Albania, Serbia, Kosovo, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Nigeria, Senegal, Ghana, Iraq and Afghanistan.
