Sri Lanka adopted the Inter-Ministerial and Inter-Agency Coordination Framework for development and support of the National Migration Health Policy, which coordinates many sectors involved in promoting the health of migrants and families left-behind.

Healthy Migrants in Healthy Communities

Through its policy of “Healthy Migrants in Healthy Communities,” Thailand has provided access to health services and health insurance for both documented and undocumented migrants including their dependents.

Under the Compulsory Migration Health Insurance (CMHI) scheme, the yearly premium for an adult is an affordable 1,600 THB or 44 USD per year, while the premium for a child is only 365 THB or 11 USD per year.

Community Learning Centers

Access to education is fundamental in leaving no one behind in the thrust towards SDGs. In that regard, Indonesia, working together with CSOs and private sectors, has established several community learning centers in Malaysia to ensure access to education for the children of Indonesian migrant workers in Malaysia.

While appreciating the Government of Malaysia for this policy, Indonesia calls on receiving countries to give broader access to education for migrants and their families.

Republic Act 10801

The Philippine government, along with their partners from the civil society organizations, private institutions, and international organizations, has continuously strived to integrate gender in the migration-related legislation. This led to the recent passing of the Republic Act 10801, known as the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Law (this May 2016), a new legislation promoting gender responsive migration.

Pravasi Bharatiya Bima Yojana

'Pravasi Bharatiya Bima Yojana' is a compulsory insurance scheme for the overseas Indian workers.  The Ministry of External Affairs has framed guidelines for all Indian emigrants going abroad for employment purposes with ECR (Emigration Check Required) endorsement on their passport to compulsorily take out this insurance cover.

Kiron University

Kiron Open Higher Education  is a social start-up founded in 2014 with the aim of removing existing barriers and provide higher education to refugees. The university  offers an innovative combination of online and offline learning to provide accessible, sustainable, and cost-effective education. Kiron  is investing in Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) to facilitate integration of migrants through education.

Intercultural mediation in hospitals

A four-year programme on intercultural mediation has been established to assist doctors in providing medical services for migrants in Greece. The introduction of intercultural mediators in hospitals facilitated communication between immigrants and hospital staff, thereby reducing cultural misunderstandings and promoting non discriminatory access to public health services. 

Programmes of intercultural training of civil servants dealing with third country nationals

The training programmes aimed to include the value of interculturalism and emphasize capacity building at all levels of public administration (national, regional and local). They addressed public servants employed at all levels of government who deal with third-country nationals or handle issues related to them, in order to help them design and implement comprehensive integration policies.
