Futurpreneur Canada – Newcomer Program

 Futurpreneur Canada is a national, non-profit organization that provides financing, mentoring and support tools to aspiring young business owners (aged 18-39).

 Its Newcomer Program provides tailored support to newcomers, including specific eligibility criteria for loan financing for young entrepreneurs (between the ages of 19-34) who have been in Canada for less than five years and who have limited or no established credit history in Canada.

Philippines- Japan International Corporation of Welfare Services (JICWELS) MOU on Nurses and Caregivers

The PHL and JICWELS have forged a unique hiring program which allows the Filipino candidate nurses/caregivers to take Japanese licensure exam and to practice their profession in Japan. It requires the candidates to undergo language training and cultural course in preparation for the exam. Before obtaining their qualifying as full-pledged nurses in Japan, the candidate is covered by a fully transparent employment contract with salaries equivalent to what Japanese nurses/caregivers receive.

MOA Between the PHL and the Kingdom of Bahrain on Health Services Cooperation

The MOA between the Philippines and Bahrain is aimed at creating alliances between the Philippines and Bahrain's recognized healthcare and educational institutions to produce sustainable international education, training and professional/technical development programs. The agreement includes the Exchange of Human Resources for Health, Scholarships Program and Academic Cooperation on Human Resources for Health and among others.

Policy reforms on deployment of domestic helpers

In 2006, the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration Governing Board has approved a series of resolutions defining policy reforms that seek to improve the lot of household workers, particularly migrant domestic workers coming from abroad. These include upgrading of skills of the workers, orientation course on country-specific culture and language, protective mechanisms at the job sites, obliging employers to shoulder the cost of deploying the domestic helper, and increasing the minimum salary to a level commensurate to their acquired competencies.

Philippine Medium Term Development Plan (2004 - 2010)

The basic task of the Medium-Term Philippine Development Plan (MTPDP), 2004-2010 was  to fight poverty by building prosperity for the greatest number of the Filipino people. 

With more than 4 million workers abroad, the Philippines systematically included labor emigration in the Plan to supplement its wider national program of job generation to alleviate poverty. The plan includes, for instance, topics such as dealing with brain drain by turning push factors into pull factors

Escuela Latinoamericana de Medicina (ELAM)

 As an example of South-South capacity building at a bilateral level: Cuba offers training of health personnel to other developing countries, for example through its Latin American School of Medicine, which produces more than 2000 graduate doctors every year for Latin America and the Caribbean; and its brigades of health professionals to fill resource gaps in poorer countries.

Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and other Health Professions (CAAM- HP)

The Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and other Health Professions (CAAM-HP) was established in 2003 under the aegis of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) to ensure that the education programmes of medicine and other health professions offered by institutions in participating countries are recognised nationally and regionally to be of international standard. This single, common registration mechanism enables doctors and nurses from CARICOM countries to do only one exam and practise anywhere in the region.

Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) on Nursing Services

The Nursing MRA was signed by ASEAN member countries on December 9, 2006. This Arrangement facilitates the mobility of nursing services professionals within ASEAN, enhances exchange of information and expertise on standards and qualifications, promotes adoption of best practices for professional nursing services and provides opportunities for capacity building and training of nurses.

Retention Program for Health Workers

The case of Malawi is one of a developing country with severe health system problems and shortages of skilled workers that is seeking solutions through comprehensive training and retention strategies. Prior to 2004, Malawi had lost some 56% of its workers to HIV/AIDS and 40% through resignations or migration. This had seriously affected the delivery of health.
