Coronavirus: municipalities of the Province of Buenos Aires hiring migrant physicians

Municipalities across the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina hired migrants from Venezuela with professional medical degrees that had not yet been revalidated by the national government. Some 4,500 doctors, nurses, and other health professionals were hired.

Municipal Migration Governance Plan for Migrants and Refugees in Quilmes

The Municipality of Quilmes commits to implementing its Second Municipal Migration Governance Plan (2023 – 2027).

Quilmes is the first municipality in Argentina to be declared "plurinational and intercultural" due to its significant migrant and refugee population, constituting 8% of the total inhabitants, with around 54,000 people of foreign origin.

In 2019, the first Municipal Migration Governance Plan was launched offering an overarching strategy for policy planning. The municipality is now implementing the second iteration of the Municipal Plan.

Automatic Electoral Registry for Migrants and Awareness Raising of Political Rights in Buenos Aires

In 2022, the General Directorate of Political and Electoral Reform of the Government of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires (CABA) launched a ‘Migrant Electoral Guide’, in collaboration with IOM Argentina and UNDP. The guide, available in Spanish, French, Catalan, Guaraní, Chinese, and Korean, is a step-by-step informative tool to promote autonomous participation in local elections and the exercise of political rights for migrants residing in the city.

Buenos Aires Nosotras Conectadas Programme: Creating Economic Opportunities for Women Migrants and Refugees in the Technology Sector

The City of Buenos Aires commits to coordinate the initiative Nosotras Conectadas (We Connected): a collaboration between the Government of the City of Buenos Aires, UNHCR, and the L'Oreal Foundation. The initiative aims to promote employment of women migrants, refugees, asylum seekers, stateless individuals, and others with international protection needs, in the digital technology sector.

Strengthening Maipú’s Governance Capacity to Promote Social Inclusion of Migrants and Refugees

SEAD (Servicio de Educación a Distancia- "Remote Educaction System")

The Distance Education Service (SEAD) provides Primary and Secondary Education to those students who are temporarily residing abroad. In this way, they are given the possibility of continuing to practice the national language, maintaining the feeling of belonging to the country of origin and facilitating their reincorporation into the Argentine Educational System.

The SEAD is aimed at Argentine students or children of Argentines residing abroad. This modality is not available for those students who live in Argentina.

Environmental Humanitarian Visa Program

The National Directorate of Migrations of Argentina implemented through Provision 891/2022 the Special Humanitarian Visa Program for nationals and residents of the United Mexican States, Central America and the Caribbean displaced by socio-natural disasters, named as "Environmental Humanitarian Visa Program", which aims to provide humanitarian protection, planned relocation and lasting solutions to people, nationals and residents in the United Mexican States, Central America and the Caribbean (23 States included) displaced by socio-natural disasters.

Residence for humanitarian reasons for Ukrainian citizens and their immediate family members

The National Directorate of Migrations issued on March 2022 Provision N° 417/2022 that authorizes the entry and stay in Argentina for humanitarian reasons of Ukrainian citizens and their direct family members, regardless of their nationality, in response to the crisis caused by the war that is going through that country. The measure aims to facilitate and guarantee family reunification of Ukrainian citizens, who are exempt from paying migration fees.
