Programme Migration & Diaspora (PMD)

The PMD programme is financed by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and supports key actors in making more effective use of regular migration and diaspora engagement to achieve their development goals. Guided by the Global Compact for Migration (GCM), the program is implemented by GIZ in up to 25 partner countries and focuses on the following three components:

Ms. Charlotte …

Supporting host communities for refugees and migrants from Venezuela in the border regions of Colombia and Ecuador

Submitted by Ms. Charlotte … on

Commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), this programme implemented by GIZ supports government institutions, local governments and civil society in the border regions of Colombia with Venezuela and Ecuador with Colombia to better respond to the flow of refugees and migrants from Venezuela and, in the case of Ecuador, also Colombian refugees. The project supports host communities in the integration of refugees and migrants.

Global Programme on Human Mobility in the Context of Climate Change

Submitted by Ms. Charlotte … on

On behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Global Programme on Human Mobility in the Context of Climate Change (GP HMCCC) supports its partners in the Caribbean, East Africa, the Pacific, the Philippines and West Africa in better understanding and addressing the complex, multi-causal interrelations between different forms of human mobility (migration, displacement and planned relocation) and climate change.

Migration Policy Advice in Niger

Submitted by Ms. Charlotte … on

Implemented on behalf of BMZ, the programme offers advice to government and civil society partners with the objective of reaching a coordinated and holistic migration policy, improving networking among multiple actors, and strengthening cooperation between political entities. The inclusion of civil society in the process contributes to checks and balances in Niger's fragile democratic system and reduces the risk of conflict. To this end, the project has supported an initiative of the local NGO "Youth-childhood-migration-development" to create a civil society network on migration.

Towards a Holistic Approach to Labour Migration Governance and Labour Mobility in North Africa (THAMM)

Submitted by Ms. Charlotte … on

Designed as a regional programme, THAMM supports national institutions to draft and implement policies and mechanisms for safe, orderly and regular migration, as well as fostering cooperation and regional exchange between relevant stakeholders in North Africa. It will also develop and pilot mobility schemes, in particular for young women and men in Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt, who are interested in a dual vocational education training in Germany, or for skilled workers seeking recognition of their qualifications to start working in Germany.

Mein Deutschland

Submitted by Mr. Camille Saadé on

The “Mein Deutschland” (My Germany) campaign, launched by Deutschlandstiftung Integration in 2019, used the 70th anniversary of the German constitution as an opportunity to build inclusion and support for migrants by emphasizing shared values.

It incorporated a strong storytelling component through its use of personal narratives communicated through images, articles and videos of individuals with an immigration background that can be shared across multiple media platforms.

Living together in diversity

The city of Mannheim in Germany is developing a ‘living together in diversity’ alliance across over 300 local actors including schools, cultural centres, sports centres, etc. with a view to jointly deciding, with all including migrants, how society would like to ‘live together’.

Family Assistance Programme

Submitted by Mr. Camille Saadé on

IOM’s Family Assistance Programme (FAP) was launched in March 2016 and is funded by the German Federal Foreign Office. The central aim of the programme is to support families in vulnerable situations to reunite with their relatives in Germany.  The programme facilitates access to family reunification, by assisting migrants with the visa application process.

Egypt-German cooperation agreement on immigration and refugees

Submitted by Mr. Camille Saadé on

With the aim of intensifying cooperation on migration issues, Germany and Egypt signed an Agreement on Bilateral Dialogue on Migration on 27 August 2017. Through the agreement, the two countries seek to work together to tackle the reasons why people migrate to Europe and stres the importance of investing in professional training for young people.

The Agreement includes both closer economic cooperation, as well as support for the Egyptian education sector and additional scholarships for young Egyptians to study in Germany.
