Wages Protection System (WPS)

Wages Protection System (WPS) is an electronic salary transfer system that allows companies / institutions to pa y workers wages via banks, bur eaux de change, and financial institutions approved and authorized to provide the service.

The system, developed by the Central Bank of the UAE, allows the Ministry of Labour to create a database that records wage payments in the private sector to guarantee the timely and full payment of agreed-upon wages.

Migration for Development in Africa (MIDA)

IOM's MIDA program, launched in 2001 and operating in eleven African countries, supports the short or longer term (or virtual) return of expatriate skills to key sectors. In each country, a multi-sectoral MIDA Steering Committee is set up, with the aim of greater coherence within the governments. The networks of participants strengthen interactions between origin and destination countries, which may stimulate further returns and development projects involving diaspora and/or the productive use of remittances.

Global Health Workforce Alliance (GHWA)

At the multilateral level, the Global Health Workforce Alliance (GHWA), is a partnership hosted and administered by the World Health Organization, provides a forum for governments, NGOs, international organizations, donors, academic institutions, professional associations and workers to search for solutions to the current "crisis" in the health workforce. 

Recognized Seasonal Employers' Scheme (RSE)

In 2006, New Zealand introduced the Recognized Seasonal Employers Scheme (RSE) to fill labour shortages in the horticulture and viticulture industries. Under this scheme, employers can apply for RSE status to fill vacant positions. Priority is given to migrants coming from the Pacific, with the idea of encouraging a mutually beneficial relationship where employers have access to a secure labour supply and workers gain entrance into the New Zealand labour market.

Joint checking account offered by the Moroccan Banque Populaire for the migrants' families

Banks can play a stronger role in keeping transfer fees low for migrants through the creation of special services with features that aid migrant’s remittance transfers. An example of such services are the joint checking accounts offered by the Moroccan Banque Populaire. Through their own branches and agreements with banks in European countries, migrants in Europe can make deposits into the account which can then be accessed by family members in Morocco. 

Empowerment Programme, Mauritius

The Government of Mauritius has established a multi-agency "Empowerment Programme", in order to, among other objectives, mount training and re-skilling programmes for the unemployed and to enhance Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) development.  Established in 2006,  the Programme has become today an important tool in efforts to reskill those who have lost jobs in declining sectors, to reintegrate those who are left behind and to prevent those on the periphery from sliding into poverty. 

ChileGlobal - The Talent Network for Innovation

ChileGlobal — the Talent Network for Innovation — promotes and facilitates the development of key economic clusters in Chile by reinforcing their links with Chileans (and some non-Chileans) residing abroad who are working to introduce innovative technologies to Chile.

The Network, which is run by a technical secretariat coordinated by NGO 'Fundacion Chile', was founded in 2005. Considered a national public interest project, the Network is financed by Chilean public funds. 

Temporary Return of Qualified Nationals (TRQN), Georgia

The Temporary Return of Qualified Nationals (TRQN) program is managed by IOM and the Georgian State Ministry of Diaspora Issues. It allows for the temporary return of Georgian nationals to Georgia in order to transfer their skills to their hosts organizations.

Georgia has been engaged in TRQN programmes for some time. It has a large and wellresourced IOM office, which is both very supportive and very strategic. Unlike many  other countries, it has an active State Minister’s office for Diaspora Issues and a task
