Enabling remittances in Africa (PRIME Africa)

Since 2021, the partnership between Cenfri and IFAD through the Remittance Access Initiative (RAI) programme, co-financed by the European Union, has supported 14 remittance service providers (RSPs) in the seven PRIME Africa countries, to enable financial inclusion of remittance families. Through innovations on identity and digital financial services, RAI supports RSPs in lowering remittance transfer costs while simplifying onboarding requirements for low-income, rural and vulnerable families.

The Local or regional government submitting this action has signed the Marrakech Mayors Declaration where they commit to endorse the set of cross-cutting and interdependent guiding principles identified in the GCM, and endorse the guiding principles and objectives of the GCR and its programme of action.

Scaling up remittances and financial inclusion in rural areas through post offices

PostBank Uganda, in partnership with  Posta Uganda and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), is finalizing its remittances business plan and expanding financial inclusion through remittances in rural areas of Uganda, leveraging Posta Uganda’s broad network of rural post offices to expand access to financial services for the rural population. The post offices are being equipped with modern digital and mobile technologies for remittance delivery and financial service transactions, and postal staff is receive specialized training.

Diaspora engagement in agri-business

The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO)'s rural youth employement and agri-food systems in Ugrana project aims to foster diaspora investments in agricultural value chains in Uganda, by assessing and supporting institutional mechanisms, mapping Ugandan diaspora skills and expertise related to agri-business, and developing a diaspora in agribusiness network and road map for policy dialogue.
