The overall objective of the action is to contribute to the development of a regional dialogue and consultation on migration, climate change and the environment. The action will achieve this by organising two regional consultations in West Africa as well as a series of national workshops in Benin, Togo and Guinea-Bissau to enhance the knowledge, capacities and cooperation, both at the national level and among West African countries, on the potential migration can play in establishing adaptation measures in countries adversely impacted by the effects of sudden and slow onset climate change.

As part of the European Agenda on Migration, the European Union has launched the European Trust Fund for Africa. Through funding specific projects linked to the creation of employment opportunities, the enhancement of food and nutrition security or the improvement of migration management, the objective of the Fund is to foster stability along the migration route to Europe and work with African partners.

Zambia established a bilateral agreement with Angola for the integration of Angolan refugees in the country, in cooperation with the civil society and IOM.

The USAID East Africa Trade and Investment Hub (the Hub) helps to facilitate East African Community (EAC) investment and technology adoption. The project connects investors with investees and builds awareness of opportunities for African and U.S. firms to increase trade and expand business partnerships, particularly under the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).

The Investment Code determines the eligible projects and the conditions of access and accreditation formalities and tax benefits, for national people, foreign people and the diaspora.

This task force aims to fight or track down the traffickers of persons. It is chaired by one of the senior deputy ministers, and it is involving all stakeholders in the country, government, non-government, private sector and the civil society as well as others who are willing to help in terms of the global partners from the UN system or from bilateral donor countries.

The Common Market protocol aims to promote development through the facilitation of the free movement of goods, persons, labour, the rights of establishment and residence, the free movement of services and capital.

The Peasant Permit is a two year, renewable permit issued by the Tanzanian government to long-standing refugees and asylum seekers.  Historically, these permits were issued exclusively in the Kigoma region, home to Tanzania’s encamped refugee population.  However, due to the advocacy efforts of Asylum Access Tanzania (AATZ), in November 2011 the Tanzanian government expanded the issuance of Peasant Permits to immigrants living outside of traditional “refugee designated” regions.

The project seeks to increase the number of remittance recipients with access to financial services and promote small and medium sized businesses. The project is focused on the extension of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) international electronic remittance service to rural postal offices and on the establishment of a link between remittances and postal account-based services. It also fosters support postal offices to develop partnerships with non-postal financial service providers such as banks and credit unions.

The African Postal Financial Services initiative is a joint regional programme launched by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the European Commission in collaboration with the World Bank, the Universal Postal Union (UPU) – a specialized United Nations agency for the postal sector, the World Savings Banks Institute/European Savings Banks Group (WSBI/ESBG) and the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF).
