Know India Programme of the Ministry is a three-week orientation programme for diaspora youth conducted with a view to promote awareness on different facets of life in India and the progress made by the country in various fields e.g. economic, industrial, education, Science & Technology, Communication & Information Technology, culture. KIP provide a unique forum for students & young professionals of Indian origin to visit India, share their views, expectations & experiences and to develop closer bonds with the contemporary India.

Overseas Indian Facilitation Centre

Overseas Indian Facilitation Centre (OIFC) was established in 2007 with the objective of supporting the Indian Diaspora connect better with India and assisting them in deepening their economic and intellectual engagement with India. Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs, Government of India, set up OIFC, a Public Private Partnership, in association with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), India’s apex industry chamber.

Pravasi Bharatiya Divas

Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) is celebrated on 9th January every year to mark the contribution of Overseas Indian community in the development of India. January 9 was chosen as the day to celebrate this occasion since it was on this day in 1915 that Mahatma Gandhi, returned to India from South Africa, led India’s freedom struggle and changed the lives of Indians forever.

The High Level Committee on the Indian Diaspora

The Indian government, tasked a High Level Committee on the Indian Diaspora to analyze the location, situation and potential development role of the estimated 20 million non-resident Indians (NRI's) and Persons of Indian Origin (PIO's).

The information resulting from this two-year exercise led to a new direction in diaspora policy, including the creation of a Ministry for Overseas Indian Affairs in 2004.

Tripartite Partnerships (CIDA)

Canada’s International Development Agency (CIDA) uses a number of techniques to mobilize diaspora groups for development in their countries of origin. It directly funds development projects executed by diaspora groups with experience in implementing development projects, such as the Association of Haitian-Canadian Engineers and Scientists.

Since many diaspora groups do not have relevant experience, however, CIDA has created tripartite partnerships among diaspora organizations, Canadian development NGOs and NGOs in the countries of origin.

Brazilian Service to Micro and Small and Enterprises - SEBRAE

The Brazilian Service to Micro and Small and Enterprises (SEBRAE) is a non-profit private entity. It is an agent of capacity building and promotion of development created to support the small business in the country. It works since 1972 to stimulate entrepreneurship and enable the competitiveness and sustainability of the micro and small initiatives.

It also encourages workers in Brazil to attain professional qualifications.

National Pact for the Elimination of Slave Labour in the Clothing Manufacturing Sector

The National Pact for the Elimination of Slave Labour was signed in 2005 by 100 different entities, with private companies, economic groups and 11 business entities (in 2010 there were already 130 signataries).

The Pact envisages the introduction of tools that will be used for the business sector and society to prevent the use of slave labour in the productive chain.

Wage Earner's Welfare Fund for Migrant Workers

The Welfare Fund for Migrant Workers ensures the welfare of migrant workers through pre-departure briefings, a welfare desk at the airport and language skills training for nurses, garment workers and hotel staff. This fund was created in 1990. The Wage Earners' Welfare Fund (WEWF) is a single trust fund pooled from the mandatory membership contributions of migrant workers, investment and interest income on these funds, and income from other sources. The WEWF's main purpose is to ensure the welfare of migrant workers by financing various activities.
