Community Plaza is a project which incorporates the use of new information and communication technologies applied to education and formation targeting Mexicans residing in the USA. This is a result of joined efforts by several institutions to promote diversified educational actions.

This program falls under the Mexico-United States Cooperation Initiative on Education that has established programs in the US to facilitate access to education for Mexican migrants and increase their potential to adapt locally.

The objectives of the Community Plaza abroad are:

National Centers for Immigrant Support (CNAI)

The National Centers for Immigrant Support were created in 2004 to address some of the challenges faced by immigrants in their integration process in Portugal. Due to the cultural differences, differences in the society, differences in the legal system and the number of different services to which the immigrants have to access led to the creation of a center that would bring together in the same space all different services, institutions and offices available to immigrants.

Leave Healthy, Return Healthy Program (Ventanilla de Salud)

The Ventanilla de Salud is a program of the Government of Mexico developed by the Department of Health and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and implemented through 50 Mexican consulates in the United States and local health organizations. The Ventanillas provide reliable information on health topics, counseling and referrals to health services available and accessible in local communities.

Guide for Migrant Women

The General Secretariat for Gender Equality (Ministry of Interior) has issued a guide for migrant women concerning their rights in the areas of work, health and social security. This also helps to sensitize officials and others to the need for equal treatment.

The website called EducationUSA.info operates as comprehensive and very user-friendly website but partners up advisers in US Embassies and Consulates overseas with the variety of partner institution who provides millions of international students with information on US universities. The Department of Home Land and Security similarly host a website about studying in the States .dhs.gov.

Migrant Workers Resource Centers (MRCs)

The Migration Resource Centers (MRCs) provide correct information on labour migration process, wages, working conditions and employment opportunities in destination countries (Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia) in a joint ILO/IOM effort. The recent DIFD-ILO project seeks to promote "no fee" migration corridors as part of efforts to combat forced labour.



The European Job Mobility Portal (EURES)

Launched in 1994, EURES is a European cooperation network of employment services, designed to facilitate the free movement of workers. The network has always worked hard to ensure that European citizens can benefit from the same opportunities, despite language barriers, cultural differences, bureaucratic challenges, diverse employment laws and a lack of recognition of educational certificates across Europe.



This web portal provides information on access to job opportunities in 32 European countries. It also promotes the cooperation amongst national employment agencies.

Development of a Tripartite Framework for the Support and Protection of Ethiopian and Somali Women Domestic Migrant Workers to the GCC States, Lebanon and Sudan (2013 - 2016)

The project aims to develop a coherent framework of migration policy across national boundaries in order to ensure the rights of low skilled, rural female domestic workers from the Horn of Africa (Ethiopia and Somalia) in the Middle East and Sudan. The project seeks to improve coordination and cooperation of social partners, civil society, institutions and organizations working on migration issues in Ethiopia, as well as in the receiving countries. It provides female domestic workers with accurate information prior to migration and with safe havens to turn to in emergencies.
