Migration in Malta – Country Profile 2015 seeks to provide an overview of the migration situation and trends in Malta. 

With an area of just over 316 km², Malta is the smallest EU Member State (MS) and one of the most densely populated countries in the world. Malta’s geographical position in the centre of the Mediterranean and the legacy of 7,000 years of colonization, as well as of the times of strife and destitution are among the factors that have interacted to create the country’s unique and complex migration narrative. 

As a country of origin, transit and destination, migration dynamics in Namibia are complex, and the country is in need of a comprehensive national migration policy to be developed by the government. However, due to lack of relevant data across ministries and agencies, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) has aimed to support the development of a national migration profile in order to collect, analyse and report on migration-related data, which is to be collected across ministries, departments and agencies.

Micronesians have been migrating for more than a millennium. The first Micronesians moved into the islands by canoe, some from the East and some from the West. They settled throughout the 100 or so inhabited islands in what became the Federated States of Micronesia, subsisting on small-scale agriculture and food from the ocean. They developed about 10 languages and many dialects over time. The population increased throughout the 1900s to about 107,000 in 2000, doubling since 1980; after that, it has been decreasing.

Migration has become an increasingly important issue affecting many countries, and it is important for accurate and reliable migration data to be produced by government to inform policy making. In Nigeria, the Technical Working Group (TWG) on Migration and Development, consisting of different government ministries, was established during the process of developing the profile to ensure ownership of the whole process of production and usage of the data. 

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) Mission to the Republic of Moldova presents the third edition of the Extended Migration Profile (EMP) of the Republic of Moldova for 2008–2013. This report is edited and published under the project “Supporting the implementation of the migration and development component of the EU–Republic of Moldova Mobility Partnership and harnessing its benefits for the residents of the Transnistria Region of the Republic of Moldova” implemented by IOM and funded by the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova.

Migration in Uganda: A Rapid Country Profile presents information on the flows and stocks of immigrants in Uganda, Uganda emigrants and internal migrants within Uganda. The profile also analyses the impact of migration to health, the environment and the socioeconomic development of the country as well as Uganda’s main migration governance structures. Recommendations are made with regards to migration governance, mainstreaming migration into development and strengthen migration statistics.

Migration in Kenya: A Country Profile provides an overview of Kenya’s migration data, trends and the country’s legal framework and governance structures as they pertain to migration. The report also describes the impact of migration on the country’s health, environment and socioeconomic development. The report can be considered a first step towards an integrated and effective migration data management framework for the country.
